Baseball Cards 123 is a website devoted to the Medico family's collection of vintage and new baseball cards. The collection began in the early 1980s but its roots can be traced back to the early 1960s when my Dad bought packs of cards only to throw around (as most kids did).
Throughout the 80s and 90s I spent quite a bit of time with my Dad, and later on brother, at the baseball card stores, shows, and flea markets. This site contains
galleries displaying some of our favorite finds throughout that time period.
In the mid-1990s we found about 15 random 1963 Topps cards on the floor of my Great-Grandma's garage in Queens, NY. This assortment even included the highly sought after Pete Rose rookie card! However, as you can see from the scan it must have been flipped, stepped on, chewed, drilled, nailed, and tacked---but who cares? Over the years we have grown attached to these cards---their sentimental value has made them an important part of our collection.
Some favorites from the Medico Collection include a 1963 and 1966 Topps Mickey Mantle, 1970 Topps Nolan Ryan, 1978 Topps Eddie Murray (RC), and a 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson (RC). Also in the collection are cards of Whitey Ford, Sandy Koufax, Roger Maris, Carl Yaztrzemski, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Harmon Killebrew, Tom Seaver, Reggie Jackson, Don Mattingly, Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds*, Alex Rodriguez, Albert Pujols, and Derek Jeter. There is also an assortment of inserts such as game-used bats and jersey cards in the collection.
Many of the cards are in NRMT-MT and excellent condition, and others have been through the wash a few times. I recently began adding more cards to the collection and will continue to post these updates on Baseball Cards 123 in the
pack pulls blog.
Baseball Cards 123 is always in the pursuit of more vintage cards (Mantle, Maris, Rose, Williams, etc),
hall-of-famers, Topps sets, Heritage and Allen & Ginter cards. However my priority is to complete the
1963 Topps set (my favorite vintage set). I am also looking to compile the ultimate #1 collection---every baseball card that is numbered 1 of every Topps set since ever. Actually, that sounds kind of dumb, let's stick with the '63s for now.
