The Ranch

The Bar W Ranch is located near Swan River, Manitoba Canada. We run 300 mother cows and train colts for a living. The cows are calved out in mid-March to the end of April. We calve the cows out on horseback as much as we can, and doctor and treat them on the pasture as well. At calving time we will alternate horses each day between a finished horse and a colt. We start our colts slow and in the open, we also provide them with a job right away whether it is checking cattle on the pasture or moving cattle from pasture to pasture, they get a job and a well rounded outlook on the ranch. Last year we took a few good horses out to Edmonton to a sale and had the 2 top selling horses at the sale, both 8 yr old Buckskins, one was a mare and the other a gelding, both were grade!!! We love to start colts a good way and finish them in a precise way.....Every horse is only as good as the rider upon his back no matter how well he is trained.......We provide horses that work for the whole family, get a job done, and look darn pretty doing it!!!!
