If you are looking into washable nappies for the first time you are probably totally confused by the huge range of nappies available. We hope our simple guide explains the basics. |

Shaped Nappies
• Easy to use, no folding required as the nappy is shaped to fit your baby, they fasten with poppers or Velcro
• Chose a “birth to potty” style (adjusts to fit any age of baby) or sized
• Use with a liner and waterproof wrap

All-in-one
• A waterproof cover is attached to an absorbent layer and most come with a choice of popper or Velcro fastenings
• Easy to put on, and no separate parts to assemble
• Can take a long time to dry

Flat Nappies
• A piece of flat, absorbent material which is folded and combined with a waterproof wrap
• The cheapest way to use real nappies
• Quick to wash and dry
• Not as easy to use on older toddlers

Pocket Nappies
• A shaped nappy which allows you to separate the absorbent part to aid quick drying
• Combines the absorbency and quick drying qualities of a Flat nappy with the convenience of an All-in-One

Wraps
• A waterproof cover for the nappy
• Fasten with Velcro or poppers
• Come in a huge variety of patterns and colours
• You generally need different sizes as your baby grows, although a few one size wraps are available |

Fleece liner
• Protects the nappy making it easier to wash and less likely to stain
• Fleece feels dry against your baby’s skin |

Flushable liner
• A disposable liner which can be flushed down the toilet
• Protects the nappy making it easier to wash and less likely to stain |

Waterproof Bag
• Useful for transporting used nappies home when out and about
• Can be used for dirty bibs, clothes when potty training etc

Nappy Bucket
• Essential for storing used nappies until wash day
• It is not essential to soak all nappies, you could just soak the messy ones
• Do not soak wraps, as this can destroy the waterproofing
• You can add a few drops of tea tree oil to the bucket to combat any smells
