The Barrel O'Baddies. Traditional Celtic Punk from the heart of Wolverhampton in England. Traditional music influenced by the spirit and power of strong seventies and eighties punk.
When Strummer and Jones noticed the strength of traditional music with the English Civil War EP, they were not alone. McGowan felt it and so did Spider Stacey's head.
Wolverhampton punks felt the power too. After many years on the road in punk bands, blues bands, traditional and
ceilidh bands; 2007 saw the meeting of several minds as The Barrel O'Baddies were formed. What would the mix turn out like?
Take a traditional song from one of the old countries, add a jig on fiddle and banjo to get it moving. Lay down some crazy skankin' guitar lines and a heavy bass riff and you're somewhere close to the Baddies' sound. Weave into it layers of growling punk power lyrics and soaring traditional vocal harmonies and the mix is complete. Well, almost complete. Get someone to mash up the place with some strange wooden spoons, whack a cymbal or two and go hell for leather on the bodhran and you'll understand what it feels like to be one of the Barrel O'Baddies. Bloody great! Bang it through a P.A. at full volume after drinkin' several pints of your favourite brew whilst whooping and hollering yourself stupid and you'll know what it's like to be part of a Baddies gig. Fan bloody tastic.
The Barrel O'Baddies play Traditional Celtic Punk, whether you like it or not. 'Ave some!
