WHAT DO WE DO?

 Writing We are a friendly group seeking to encourage, motivate and inspire both established and would-be writers of fiction, articles and poetry through manuscript meetings, competition evenings, guest speaker events and occasional social evenings. See current programme below. 
We meet at  LA ZOUCH RESTAURANT, KILWARDBY STREET, ASHBY on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 7.30 pm. to 9.45 p.m.  Prospective new members always welcome.  Why not come along and check us out?  Annual subscription £18.  £1 per meeting to include tea/coffee.  Visitors welcome at £2 for manuscript meetings and £3 for speaker evenings, both to include refreshment.

24th March                    competition: a humorous verse of up to 30 lines with the title “Those

Ageing Blues”.

 

14th April                       Cancelled - venue closed.

 

28th April                       speaker: Helen Peden talking about Jane Eyre.  Tales behind the tale.  Helen says, “Our heroine was more than a mouse!  Through Jane, Charlotte Bronte presented daring and controversial ideas to her contemporary readers.  Join me for an entertaining and light-hearted look at the hidden sensuality, the role of the governess, and the scientific practice of phrenology, all found in the pages of Jane Eyre.”

 

12th May                       Manuscript meeting – members' own work

 

26th May                       speaker: Stephen Booth.  By popular request, this is a return visit by the best-selling crime writer, who sets his murders in the Derbyshire Peak District.

 

9th June                        competition: 300 word prose piece on the topic of “Regrets

(own title)    nb: This must be between 295-305 words in length,

excluding title.

14th July                       speaker: Norman Harrington.  “Poetry and humour.”
