This is our 22 yr old APHA mare Miss Zan Cat, fondly known as Kitty or Kit. She is my baby and I have had her for 10 years now. She has taught me so much, and now she is teaching other beginner riders. She is currently my only lesson horse. She is definitely the boss mare around here! She has done it all, literally. I have used her for jumping, speed events, saddle seat, western, hunt seat, halter, dressage and reining. She was amazing at most, but was not that thrilled with jumping. An amusing event for an APHA horse that she did great at and we placed several times in was saddle seat, go figure! We always placed in trail and if she were a little younger, I would love to take her to extreme trail events. She has started to show her age more this year after her last foal so she will only be lightly ridden and will help show my son the ropes. She pretends she does not like attention but deep down she loves it (at least I think so) See her pedigree here

Reasonable Rita, who we call Cady, came to us in the winter of 2004 already bred. She was in foal to Reds Double Stuff, a black AQHA stallion who sired multiple youth and pleasure winners. We had intended to sell the foal, but he turned out to be everything we had been looking for in a gelding. More on him below. Cady is an 13 yr old OTTB. Most of the time, she is just fine around Jeff, but there are times she will get very upset for no reason that can be seen when he is around. I don’t like to jump to conclusions, but I believe this girl has been mistreated by a man, and the breeder of this mare did confirm that she was a sweetheart but was a totally different horse after she came back from the trainer. The amazing thing is that she is very content to have him in the saddle. She does not tie, and would fight it to the death before she will stand tied, at least when there is a man around. She is very touchy when it comes to her nose; it took me a while of working with her just to get a halter on without a fight. She did race for 7 years and won a fair bit of money. Cady now has a new home with my husbands sister and they are great together!

Skippa Native Reason, aka Reese is now a still growing 4 yr old. The pictures were taken at birth, 4 months, and 3 yrs. He is a Reg Appendix QH gelding and people have asked why I did not keep him a stallion. My answer, because I am smart enough to know I am not set up to house a stallion, and although I have handled several tricky stallions, I also do not have the depth of knowledge to train a stallion at this point in my life. I started Reese under saddle in December of 2006, just simple walking and bending, and don’t worry, I am barley over 100lbs. He learned amazingly fast and we are excited to see what he will do with further training. He will eventually make a great barrel horse, but that is another year or two ahead. If you are wondering, yes he still has a half black half brown face as a 4 yr old! Reese has had 30 days training and the trainer had commented several times that Reese was the nicest horse he had trained in a long time. He has so far been a great trail horse, he just needs to gain more confidence in himself. See his pedigree here

Three new horses have joined our herd since last spring. The first was our sweet little filly out of Cady and by a black and white 3/4 percheron 1/4 paint stallion. She was born May 21st 2008 at 2:39 a.m. on our 3rd wedding anniversary. She is a half sister to my 4 yr old gelding, Reese. Like her brother she learns very fast, but is a bit more sassy then he is and less afraid of the world. It will be very interesting to watch her grow up! The above pictures are from the day she was born, and then at 4 months.

The next new horse, MCCs Thunders Delight, joined us September 1st 2008 as a result of me being the winner of the Mare Stare Cares benefit horse raffle. They did a drawing for the monthly mystery basket first, on live streaming cam, which I won and could not believe it. When they then did the drawing for the mini mare and announced my name again I almost had a heart attack! We picked her up in Indiana the following weekend and after having her home for several days, decided to call her Penny. In the beginning she was very tolerant of Jackson and the adults but has recently been having some mood issues. She did have a false pregnancy so hopefully after a few cycles this spring she will be back to normal.

The third and final horse to join us in the 2008 year was a cremello Quarter horse gelding named Ghost. He is 7 yrs old and halter bred. He is still a baby mentally and we will be doing a lot of work with him this summer to find out what he will excel at and be happy doing.
When warm weather finally arrives, there will be updated photos of these guys so check back! Also check out our photo gallery.
