Message from the coaches
After a long and enjoyable season we anticipate that some of our players may be involved with the Ospreys Under 16's next season. For that reason and also the fact that we have vacancies within our squad, in order to ensure that the age group can fulfill weekly fixtures we will be looking to increase the size of our squad next season. Therefore when we start back training, new players are invited to come along to our training sessions with a view to joining our squad. If you are a player and would like to come along to our training sessions, keep checking the website for training dates
Presentation Evening 2008/2009
Our presentation evening was held on Sunday 17th May at The Hi Tide Inn, Porthcawl. This capped another fantastic season for the team in which they played 22 games, winning 21 and losing just 1. They scored 756 points and conceded 174, scoring 125 tries in the process. The pinnacle of the season was retaining the Osprey Cup.
As expected, other tems did close the gap and the players and coaches have had to work very hard to keep ahead of the chasing pack. The team continued to play an exciting brand of running rugby and improved as the season progressed. Another excellent season - well done everyone.
Presentation awards were as follows:
Clubman of the year : Ryan Evans
Most promising player : Kyle Davies
Most improved player : Lewis Down
Best back : Ben Thomas
Player of the year : (Shared) Lloyd Wilson / Evan Yardley
Last Game of the Season
Our final game of the season was against touring side Wellingborough R.F.C on Monday 4th May at the Bandstand pitch at the Rec. The match was played in a fun atmosphere and both sides made new friends and played some good rugby with the Athletic finally running out deserved winners.
Osprey Cup Final (26/04/2009)
On Sunday 26th April 2009 the Athletic travelled a short distance up the Llynfi Valley to take on Gorseinon in the final of the Osprey Cup at Maesteg R.F.C. The crowd were treated to a very entertaining game in which the Athletic always had the upper hand despite a second half revival from Gorseinon. Both sides scored some excellent tries before the Athletic ran out winners by 28 points to 17. Congratulations to the whole squad and coaches for all their hard work and for serving up another excellent and very enjoyable season.
New Captain
Congratulations to No.8 Lloyd Wilson on being named our Captain for this coming season 2008/09. Also thanks to Luke Hollyman who has done an excellent job as Captain over the past few seasons.
