Welcome to the model railway web pages of Barchester. Hopefully you will like Barchester and it's surrounds, so much so that you will want to take up this marvellous hobby yourself. That's my intention anyway.
If you are already a modeller then I sincerely hope that you will find something to interest you in what follows, or, if you should find incorrect or misleading information, please let me know.
For the casual looker in, or for those contemplating making a start, and you feel that you need still more information than is shown here then please don't hesitate to contact me.
Any opinions or views put forward on this site are purely my own and are not necessarily those of any other railway modeller.
**************************************************
The creation of model railways has been a major hobby of mine for many, many years and is still as fulfilling today as it was when I first started. I don't use the word 'creation' lightly, as that is exactly what this hobby is about, creating something that is uniquely yours. A moving, living picture, composed of many different materials, requiring skills that you probably thought you didn't have but which you will learn as you progress.
A very important consideration in today's financial climate is that success in this hobby isn't directly related to how much you spend. When I say success I mean the satisfaction and pleasure that is going to be yours if you choose to follow the hobby and that success has nothing at all to do with how much you can afford. In fact, less can be much, much more. That is not to say that model railroading is a freebie, of course it isn't, but I am being completely truthful when I say that a little can go a very long way.
