News Updated 16th January 2005

Ladies and gents as of January 12th 2005 Cruel Device have gone their separate ways.

So what happened?

Tom announced he wasn't happy with the way things were going musically (not heavy enough for him) and that he had been thinking like this for some time and so handed his resignation in.

After discussion it was decided that the band should stop.

Alhough this was a bolt out of the blue the band all remain good friends.

If you keep visiting this site I shall continue to update it with each members new projects.

I would like to thank the guys in the band for such a cool time and some good memories.

And would like to thank all those who came out to see us, or supported us in anyway.

Take care peeps see you soon

Steve

How's this for Irony as I write this I just recieved a review from someone who was at the last gig it reads

SILVERJET/CRUEL DEVICE
Classic Rock Bar, Sheffield   Fri   7th January  2005

The first time I’ve been able to review a headlining gig by Sheffield’s own
southern rock n’ roll starlets Silverjet is a double honour for me as we
also finally have the privilege of watching the much anticipated Cruel
Device in action. Singer Steve and bassist Dave were, as some might recally,
two parts of Jury’s act, another well-talked about act from out of town,
before they disbanded two years ago. With a (brilliant) new guitarist and
new drummer in tow, this latest formation seem set not to disappoint.  Nor
do they as most of their tunes drill in almost immediately as the variation
of musical backgrounds these four lads each spring from takes its full
effect on their style, mostly Purple-meets-Priest-meets-Alice Cooper classic
hard rock  but with occasional distinctive nods towards Therapy and The
Wildhearts to boot. Two of the ten numbers were apparently from Steve’s
erstwhile band so some compensation for those who didn’t catch them last
time around. That plus an instrumental break consisting of an up-gear blast
through the Ghostbusters theme –that was a cool idea by the way, boys- and a
belting rendition of the Cult’s ‘L’il Devil’ and we ain’t done badly for
forty minutes. Equipped with some promising tunes in the shape of ‘Clean
Up’, ‘Call Me Frankenstein’, ‘Don’t You Call This Love’, ‘This Time’ and
‘Somebody Saw You’, plus a strong set of pipes in Steve’s voice, this
impressive selection showed me what I’d been missing all these years.
Definitely worth the wait -  I just hope they have a release sometime this
year.

Two of the most promising young bands on the Sheffield hard rock scene,
Silverjet and Cruel Device may only be in their early days but with
substantial support look set for success, and good luck to both.  A fine
evening down the pub for lovers of live hard rock.     9/10   (Dave Attrill)

News Updated 9th January 2005

Well folks we hope you all had great time over the festive period,

Well now the Jolly period is over it's straight back to work for us here at CD.

The first gig of the New year is over, The Band weren't that impressed on the night (but we are our own worse critics)When we asked from a reaction from various members of the crowd they said we played well but the overall sound wasn't great??

Anyways more on the gig to follow on the tour diary page.

We've begun writing some new songs and hope to have some for the next gig.

As for other plans for the first part of this year? We are really working on promoting the band and are looking to play a fair few more gigs.

Keep checking back as there's always something going on and here's where you'll hear it first.

News Updated 29th September

Well it seems ages since the last update, so we shall crack on.

Firstly we must wish a be-lated Birthday to the Youngest member of the band Mr Andy Davison who turned 23 on the 6th September, Happy Birthday Mucker

We forgot because Andy is currently touring Europe for eight weeks (And we're blokes who forget our own Birthdays so remembering each others ha ha ha),

So if you see someone who looks like him in France, Spain, Germany etc and he looks Hungry buy him a sarnie and a pint.

We are still in the studio, it's sounding great.

We're in talks with someone about a DVD we are releasing - More on that as it happens, But I can tell you that it's going to be something special.

There's lots more going off such as Id is still doing the Vampires Tour

Keep tuned in and be ready because we could be heading your way (In person or Via a DVD / CD / Mp3)

We've been in the studio laying down the drum tracks for the as yet untitled debut cd.

Cruel Device!!  How'd that 'appen then?

Id 'n' Steve had been in a band together for about four years, but when that ground to halt, they went their seperate musical ways...  Steve was writing with various guitarists but couldn't find what he needed, until Tom arrived - they knew each other by sight and by chance got talking and agreed to jam!!  'Id heard the stuff they were writing and was hooked.  And Andy?  He's actually Steve's cousin by marriage, and purely by chance was (and is) a drummer.  Tho' he's only ben playing a short while, Andy has got that rhythm thing, and provides the solid backbone for the band...  So here we are - busy writing stuff - we love it, and we hope you'll love it.  Keep you eyes out for the first live appearance of...

Cruel Device would like to take this chance to thank anyone who  stands by them, playing all releases and believing in them.
