Bangkok Hotels and Travel Basics

Bangkok is as everybody knows, the capital of Thailand, in South East Asia. Catching up fast on its neighbours Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, Bangkok offers now an amazing mixture of tradition and trendy places. Most of travellers will only pass by on their way to Phuket, Koh Samui or Chiang Mai, and stay for only one or two nights.

There are plenty of discovery to do and places to enjoy. Since the arrival of the skytrain, most of these interesting places are much easier to access. The traditional Tuk Tuk is disappearing, giving way to the Taxi Meter, more confortable, air conditioned and protected from the exhaust pipes from trucks! Just make sure that the fare meter is switched on when stepping in. Driving is still a challenge, but unless you have to be somewhere in a specific time, you can easily avoid office hours rush. 

Shopping is always a good fun, cheap and offering a large range of items, from brands (less fake or copies lately) to local handicrafts. Chinatown is definitely an interesting visit with its crowded small alleys displaying million of unusual items. The flower market will give the chance to see flowers you might not have the chance to see in other countries. And of course, located in Siam and Silom area, the shopping centers and department stores are a good way to spend the day in case of rain.

Temples haven't changed much, the Grand Palace still attracts million of people every year, Thai or foreigners. Note that there is a "Dress Code" to enter, which surprisingly, is different for Thai and Farangs (Foreigners)! Thai People can wear sandals, tourist can't... Wear long pants and have you shoulders covered. Don't forget to remove hat or cap when entering the temples buildings.
