Balz to the Wall 2004 Donates $21,200 to the Alzheimers Association
Neenah July 26, 2004 The Alzheimers Association of Greater Wisconsin recently received a gift of $21,200 made on behalf of Balz to the Wall 2004 Charity Boating Event (BTTW). There will also be a second donation made when all the funds are received by BTTW. Coordinated by Michael A. Balz, Balz to the Wall 2004 was held July 22 through 24 on Lakes Winnebago and Poygan, and the Wolf River. Over 40 high performance powerboat enthusiasts from across the Midwest and Canada participated in mini-raffles, silent and live auctions, and a poker run. Tours of the new Verado production line and Mercury Racing were offered. Mercury High Performance merchandise was also for sale. A plaque in memory of Dennis Cavanaugh was presented to Fred Kiekhaefer of Mercury Racing on behalf of BTTW. The dinner and auction events took place at Fishermans Cove in Fond du Lac, The Slipknot in Fremont, and the Gravel Pit in Kiel.
Balz to the Wall is an annual charity boating event coordinated by Mike Balz, of Kiel, and friends. Each year a local charity is designated as recipient of the event proceeds. In the past three years, they have donated over $7300 to march of Dimes. The Alzheimers Association of Greater Wisconsin is honored to have been chosen the 2004 charity for Balz to the Wall. This was a spectacular weekend! So many wonderful people came out to enjoy the water and to support the local Alzheimers Association. We are truly grateful to Mike Balz and his friends and sponsors. said Becky Reichelt and Tami Morrow, outreach specialists for the Alzheimers Association of Greater Wisconsin. The majority of the dollars were donated to the Alzheimers Association of Greater Wisconsin to provide care support services and education programs to families in the Fox Valley and Green Bay area. A portion of the dollars were also donated the National Office of the Alzheimers Association to support research.
My father has been diagnosed with Alzheimers disease. This has hit our family close to the heart this year. Making the Alzheimers Association the benefactor this year was an easy decision for me. The event could not have gone any better. The weather was great, the turnout was great, the participants were great, the boating was great, the auctions were great, the example that was set for all high performance boating was great, and the best part is that the donation was great. We had a planned goal of $10,000 from the start. Doubling that goal is just plain unbelievable! said Michael Balz, BTTW event coordinator.
