"BALZ TO THE WALL" 2004

Charity Boating Event Announcement

The Event Was A Complete Success !!!!!!

June 6, 2004 Brat Fry Results Also Announced !!!!!!

See Below for details.

Our annual Midwest Charity Boating event dates are set. It will run from Thursday July 22nd through Sunday July 25th 2004. We will be doing our usual tour of Mercury High Perf, Merc High Perf Merchandise sale, Poker Run, Charity Auction and dinner, Fryout, etc., as we have done in the past. We are working with Mercury to see what else we can dream up. They want to become even more involved.

One change we will be making this year is the organization that receives the donation. We have been giving all (100%) of the proceeds to March of Dimes in the past. In the last 3 years, we have donated approximately $7200 to them. ($4200 last year alone) We appreciate their involvement and thank them for being part of our event for the last 3 years.

As some of you may know, my father is not doing well. He has Alzheimer's Disease (AD) along with Pulmonary Hypertension. (Not a good combination) Alzheimer's Disease is one of the worst diseases in the world to cope with. (For the patient, the family, caregivers, and friends) Anyone who has dealt with a family member with AD knows what everyone involved goes through. This has really hit home hard for our entire family. I have made the decision to change the charity to the Alzheimer's Association. At this point, it is very important to us to make this the best donation year ever. The Northeast Wisconsin chapter has been chosen to receive the donation along with the national organization to allow some of the money to go to research.

This disease needs to be solved. If it keeps going at the rate it is, it will cost the economy $100,000,000,000.00 by the year 2030 in lost wages for patients and caregivers, and expenses to care for the patients. (Yes that's right, 100 Billion dollars) As you can imagine, this will wipe out Medicare. Our current economy and government simply can't afford this. I am sure our donation will not solve the disease but everyone's small part will help.

We are targeting a $10,000 donation this year.

If you would like to be involved and help with donations (cash donation, boating parts, non-boat-related items, or anything for the charity auction, please e-mail at Mbalz@charter.net or call at (920) 894-7693. Remember that these are tax deductible donations.  Receipts are available upon request. Every little bit helps. Please help in any way you can. Thanks in advance for your involvement.

If you know of anyone else that you think may be interested in donating, click on the following link to download the " Announcment Letter", print it, and take it to them.

Balz to the Wall 2004 Donates $21,200 to the Alzheimer’s Association

Neenah – July 26, 2004  – The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Wisconsin recently received a gift of $21,200 made on behalf of Balz to the Wall 2004 Charity Boating Event (BTTW).  There will also be a second donation made when all the funds are received by BTTW.  Coordinated by Michael A. Balz, Balz to the Wall 2004 was held July 22 through 24 on Lakes Winnebago and Poygan, and the Wolf River.  Over 40 high performance powerboat enthusiasts from across the Midwest and Canada participated in mini-raffles, silent and live auctions, and a poker run. Tours of the new Verado production line and Mercury Racing were offered.   Mercury High Performance merchandise was also for sale.   A plaque in memory of Dennis Cavanaugh was presented to Fred Kiekhaefer of Mercury Racing on behalf of BTTW.   The dinner and auction events took place at Fisherman’s Cove in Fond du Lac, The Slipknot in Fremont, and the Gravel Pit in Kiel.

Balz to the Wall is an annual charity boating event coordinated by Mike Balz, of Kiel, and friends.  Each year a local charity is designated as recipient of the event proceeds.  In the past three years, they have donated over $7300 to march of Dimes.  The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Wisconsin is honored to have been chosen the 2004 charity for Balz to the Wall.   “This was a spectacular weekend!”   So many wonderful people came out to enjoy the water and to support the local Alzheimer’s Association.  We are truly grateful to Mike Balz and his friends and sponsors.”  said Becky Reichelt and Tami Morrow, outreach specialists for the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Wisconsin.    The majority of the dollars were donated to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Wisconsin to provide care support services and education programs to families in the Fox Valley and Green Bay area.  A portion of the dollars were also donated the National Office of the Alzheimer’s Association to support research.

My father has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.  This has hit our family close to the heart this year.  Making the Alzheimer’s Association the benefactor this year was an easy decision for me.   The event could not have gone any better.  The weather was great, the turnout was great, the participants were great, the boating was great, the auctions were great, the example that was set for all high performance boating was great, and the best part is that the donation was great.  We had a planned goal of $10,000 from the start.  Doubling that goal is just plain unbelievable!  said Michael Balz, BTTW event coordinator.

On behalf of BTTW, Mike Balz would like to thank the following businesses for their kind donations:

June 6th Brat Fry Results !!!!!!!!!!!

We had another successful event !!!!!!!!!

Sunday June 6th we had a benefit brat fry at Darrel and Sherry’s Trails End Sportsman Bar in Kiel WI.  We had 9 boats show up to put on display.  Some came all the way from IL to help out !!!!!  It was graduation day in Kiel so the crowd was a bit on the smaller side.  The people that did attend did a great job in helping the cause.  We sold a pile of T-shirts, sold almost all the food, and the raffles were a great success.  When it was all over, we made a profit of $1,900.00 for the Alzheimer’s association.  Hats off to everyone that helped make this a successful day.  The $1,900.00 in proceeds will be presented to AD on July 24th at the main event.

Here a few pictures of the day
