How we met

John was already attending our singles' ward when I was just getting ready to.  I was hesitant at first, because I had head so crazy stereotypes about them (and having seen the movie "The Singles' Ward").  When I finally decided to go, I was there for about a month before the ward started putting people into "committees".  This was their way of getting more people involved in the ward I suppose.

John was the co-chair of the friendship and service committee, and while trying to decide who to invite to the committee, he came across my name.  Not knowing who I was, he thought I was inactive in church!  Of course he then requested that I be put in the group for fellowshipping reasons of whatever, and that's how we met.

How we got together

As you know already, John and I ended up in the same committee in the singles' ward that we attended, so we immediately got exposed to one another off and on.  Our ward got together for a family home evening at the church, and we were planning a ward activity.  What was decided was that every committee would get together and construct a golf hole for our miniature golf night.

John gave me a call to see if I could come over and work on the golf hole, and of course I could, but no one else was there!  I'm not sure even to this day if he called the other people or not, but either way, it was really nice.  We spent a whole week working on this hole together, and by the time we were getting to be finished, we were becoming really good friends.

John asked me out on a date to go bowling, and I was totally up for it, so we planned a date and time and that was that.  The problem was, that on the night that I was supposed to call him to confirm, I fell asleep doing home work, and forgot to call!  Luckily he was still interested enough in me to try again.  We planned on renting a movie and watching it at his house until I had to go to work.  I remembered this time, so we got together and had a blast.

We dated for a few more weeks, and and it was during this time that we were already talking about things like "I wonder what the chances of our kids having blue eyes over brown would be since mine are so dark" and other marriage related things.  After these few weeks of dating, John and I became boyfriend/girlfriend, and on our one month anniversary of dating, he asked me to marry him!

Ok ok....here's how he proposed :)

So as we were dating, we already knew that we were going to get married.  We talked about it, we cuddled over the very thought of it, and it was so going to happen.  John had already talked with my dad about it too.  We went shopping for a ring at Shane Co., and I picked out the ring that I liked.  John made me leave the room for the purchase, and then all that was left was the proposal.

I tried asking John when the ring would come in, and he just would not give me a straight answer!  Being the sneak that I was, I went online and checked their shipping, and I learned that their custom rings (since that's the kind we got) ship in 2-3 weeks.  So I fooled him, and KNEW when my ring was coming in.

On our one month anniversary of being bf/gf, we went on a special date.  We had this thing where on every date,  one of us would decide the food, and the other would decide the mood, then we'd switch for the next date.  I decided on the food, and John was in charge of the mood (like where we went/what we did after kind of a thing).

After dinner, John was driving, and I had no idea where we were going.  We started heading up to the mormon center, which kinda boggled my mind at the time because I remember telling him way back that I thought being proposed to in front of a temple would be way romantic (and at this time, the Sacramento temple was under construction).

We parked the car, and started walking around among the trees, just holding hands.  It was getting chilly, so he gave me his jacket to wear.  After walking, we found a bench to sit on and cuddle, and he starting speaking in Italian.  I had no idea what the heck he was saying, but he knew that I loved to hear him speak Italian!  Then he started to translate as we got up and continued walking.

He translated all of these sweet nothings that he had been saying and, "I have a question for you, but I think it would be better to say it in English rather than Italian so you will know what I am saying."  He then reached into the pocket of the jacket that I was wearing, and pulled out a small, grey velvet box.  I immediately started crying as he knelt before me, opened the box and said, "Will you marry me?".  I think I squeaked before I said anything audible, but I threw my hands around his neck and said....well what do you think I said!?  I said YES!

What we're up to now

We moved into our new home, and we're both working full time, saving up for house stuff!  I'm working at at Folsom Convalescent Hospital as a receptionist/secretary, while John is programing computer software for his father's auto mechanic shop.  We love life, we love each other, and we love looking forward to what the future has in store for us.
