Bailielands Bruce

Bailielands Bruce (X03051) was born on 25th October 2004 out of Coco Chanel ( U75976) by Wicklow Lad Of Gerrardstown (U21089)

He is a fine dog now of very gentle and affable temperament.

In type he is of typical working Glen, well built but not awkward, powerful but agile, hard coated and easy to groom.

Today on the 3rd of July 2009 his body measurements are as follows...

Condition score... Lean & Fit

Weight 15K

Height at shoulder 13"

Length of back 16"

Chest Circumference, just behind elbows 21 1/2"

Muzzle length stop to end of nose 3"

Skull circumference just behind eyes 16"

Neck circumference just below head 15"

Front Paw circumference just below wrist 4 3/4"

( All measurements taken tightly and three times to check accuracy)

At the very 1st club show he came 2nd in Open Dog, his father came 1st: Wicklow Lad Of Gerrardstown. At the 2nd club show sadly he came 4th but Wicklow Lad did win again, well done Fern!

Bruce is an easy going and obedient fella, who potters about the land taking a polite interest in everything.

He loves going out to the nearby forest park and down the bogs for a ramble. He is a peacekeeper among the ladies, breaking up rows between female glens and occasionally holding an agressor down to the ground until they came down.  If confronted himself by another agressive male, fighting is his last resort, he will attempt to knock the agressor down and hold them there until they submit or calm down.  His father Fern behaves in the same way and his aunt Shannon, a very peaceable strain.  So does Cailin, his sister, fighting is the last resort unlike other Glens i have known and know!

He assisted his sister Cailin at her whelping, you can find the story in Glen Girls under Cailin's section.

Bruce is a remarkeable male Glen in character and intelligence and breeds heavier than he looks, ( in other words his genotype is expressed slightly differently to his phenotype, but hey doesn't everyone's to some degree!) as the smallest male of the litter he wasn't an ideal choice for a stud, but he has turned out healthy and sound.

And his offspring have done very well as pets and workers.

Bruce's pictures are now in the Gallery.

Bruce can also be seen in his scruffs at http://bailielands.blogspot.com/2009/11/bailielands-bruce-himself.html

Bailiebroc Ziggy

Bailebroc Ziggy (Y35300) was born on the 5th of September 2008.

He was bred by Mrs Teresa Thame of Clooncagh, Strokestown.

He is out of Bailielands Aoibhinn (X03057) a top class sporting bitch and family pet, and is by Mayo's Limited Edition (X89280) who is now on permanet working loan.  This gives Ziggy 2 full generations of proved sporting glens behind him, should he too work well, he will provide a lineage of 3 full generations of proven Glens.

He is wheaten and today on the 3rd of July 2009, he is 10 months old and his body measurements are as follows...

Gerrardstown Wolfgang R.I.P.

Wolfie , d.o.b August 2005.

Sadly Wolfie was put down in late 2008 due to rampant Lymphoma.  His sister also died from cancer, his litter sister.

I don't like this at all, during that year that Penny and Wolfie died, Fern ( Wicklow Lad ) also died of cancer and another glen of a friend of mine, all dogs who were not very old.

Bred by Ian Mc Culloch, he was a superb blue with lots of zip and character.

He is out of Roisin's Pride "Nellie" by Knockroe Big Boy "Clyde", lookswise he takes after Nellie, personality he takes from Clyde!

A little lower at the withers than Bruce, he had a lower centre of gravity and was more feisty, but is a slighter and smaller dog.

Did not make it to Club show in Aug to much disgust, was much looking forward to debuting him due to his exceptional zip and fire, a certain athleticism about him, he is very active and alert.  He is small but perfectly formed....

Wolfie's pictures are now up on the gallery.  On the day of taking he was muddy and wet, but he looks well, strong and poised for action.

Wolfie's diet has been sucessful and he is slim and limber now.

As of late October 2007, he has made a spectacular formal debut into his working scene, under critical and professional eyes, who have declared him a very hard dog, ready to get stuck straight in, utterly determined, has a phenomenal grip and tenancity, a 'serious dog'.

*****

He worked very well during his brief glorious lifetime but only produced one known offspring Mayo's Limited Edition, a big stringy drink of water but all i had to work with for a while, he is on working loan up in Cavan.  Now with hindsight Wolfie's fertility problems could have been an early sign of the lymphoma, poor divil, mercifully his last illness was very brief.

At the moment i am perservering with young Bailebroc Ziggy, Wolfie's grandson, as a possible next gen stud, he is out of Bailielands Aoibhinn ( Wicklow Lad Of Gerrardstown x Coco Chanel), i am cautious about this decision as unknown to me, Setanta his father carries an ancestor i would rather avoid.  I am also running on one female pup out of Bailielands Grainne ( Bailelands Una Bhan ) so far any unpleasantness seems to mostly arise when a male of that ancestry to mated to a pure Irish bitch, or a doubling up of a certain ancestor occurs under a certain number of generations, mating a pure Irish dog to a bitch with that lineage may seem to be safer.  But to test my theory i'll run the two of them on and see.  We are running out of pure Irish lineages with inbreeding co-efficients of less than 20% !!!!

But as it is so far back now in Ziggy's line i'll take a chance and hope for the best, which is all we can do with such a limited gene pool, you can only work with what you've got.

Welcome
