Ride On

Slavery is not a thing of the past.  It just hides well now.  We are a collection of people that believe it should be hidden no longer.  After all, how can a person do anything about something they don't even know exists?  We can hopefully help you with that.

I once described this trip to someone as "raising awareness for the sex trade industry".  Needless to say the older lady on the other end of this comment gave me a grimace and returned inside her home immediatly upon hearing it.  I am just glad she left before I mentioned that I had "experience" working with it in Cambodia and throughout SE Asia.  I realized two things walking away from that awkward conversation.  First of all, human trafficking is much more than just the sex trade industry.  Slave labor is perhaps even more prevalent.  Second, this is a topic that I all at once realized is difficult to talk about for some people.  (I even believe some people would rather ignore it) I understand that people would not want to get involved.  For your everyday average American citizen probably needn't worry about one of thier friends becoming a sex slave or anything.  But perhaps the persons that do find themselves caught in this industry lack the kind of friendships you and I enjoy.  Ones that contain love and compassion.  Ones that bring hope.  Hope was given a new meaning on Easter over 2000 years ago.  Can renew some of that hope for someone starting on this Easter day?

What can I do?  I have a job, I have a career, I have kids, I have a mortgage, I have a golf membership.  I have never been personally seen it, felt it, maybe even heard of it, how can I possibly make a difference.  I am not asking anyone to run off to some remote country and fight this thing on the ground.  I can only urge you to open your heart to some of the stories this week and at the end of it...pray.  Let God search your heart and He can help you find your solution.
