:: Care of your Muslin Backdrop

When You First Receive your muslin background...

It will be rolled up like a sleeping bag and when unrolled will have linear fold creases.  Even if you aren't going to use the backdrop immediately, unfold the backdrop and store it "wadded up" rather than folded.

Hanging Your Muslin Background...

If you are using one of our Savage or JTL Backdrop Hanging Systems, or a similar system, note tht a rod pocket is sewn into the top 10' edge of the muslin.  Slide the muslin pole through the pocket and hook it over the support stands.  Use a set of Spring Clamps (available from our web site) to create special draping effects, or to utilize the complete width by pulling the backdrop taut.

Wrinkles or creases in your backdrop...

Are best removed with a professional muslin steamer, but a consumer clothing steamer will work as well.  Some photographers have also had good results by simply misting the backdrop with water or a fabric wrinkle releaser.  Stubborn creases can be removed with an iron.

Cleaning your muslin backdrop...

Most of our muslin backdrops can easily incorporate most stains or spots into the design, however, if the need arises, the backdrops can be spot cleaned with a scruub brush and a mixture of water and laundry detergent.  If machine washed, the design will lighten and change.  For freshness, mist with fabreeze, or easier yet, a blend of fabric softener and water.
