Well where do I start, I've done a fair bit of traveling so far in my life, mostly over the past 5 years, and mostly to Latin America. Trips including; Belize/Guatemala in 2001, Ecuador, the Amazon and Peru in 2002 (which i will expand on for anyone interested, later and I was in Peru, Bolivia and Chile in 2005. I've also been out west (British Columbia (2) and Alberta.
If it's outdoor related I probably like it, excluding fishing/hunting. I love to go rafting (4timesl; kicking horse(BC), Canmore(Alberta), near Huaraz (Peru) and near Arequipa (Peru). I love to hike. I;ve done some 2-3 day long treks, a few were to as high as 5400m which is roughly over 15,000ft. I have hiked the Inca Trail (peru) which is a 4 day hike and amazing! I love camping; I've camped in bc (shannon falls), alberta(lake louise and banff), and numerious times in Ontario; (bon echo, killbear, killarney, mcdonald river, moon river, six mile lake. I love to canoe and portage, and just got my own canoe.
I have a tourism management diploma from Georgian College; I really enjoyed the program and learned alot from adventure tourism to eco tourism, to site development etc. I was able to do my co-op in 2002 in south america. Where i got to spend 3 months there. First I lived with an Ecuadorian family, learning their way of life, I also took spanish classes during the week and each weekend went on a trip (biking, hiking and a trip to an ecolodge. In my 2nd month I volunteered at a conservation reserve in the Amazon basin. It was probably the best part of the trip/co-op. I got to learn about the rainforest/medicinal plants, i helped build a community park for a small village and I taught english to a nearby school to 5-12 year olds.
I believe in "eco" based vacation/travel at all times. I try to practice as many ecotourism principles at all times. I promote locally owned tour operators when I can and travel to off the beaten trail destinations. I am definitely not into the "all inclusive trips"
I have a great love for traveling as you all know by now. I also love to help people with their travel plans, especially to places in South America, anywhere really. So, if you have anything you would like to ask, go right ahead, I love to do my homework/research. I have thought about having my own travel consultant business one day, so I guess maybe this can be practice and a learning experience for myself .
