BABY PACK PROJECT

Helping Those In Need

    THANK YOU so so much

Your Parcels and Packets are flooding in.

Thanks to those who make and send us baby goods

for use in the baby packs.

Without your support the project would not be possible.

Val Bailey, our volunteer at the front so to speak, is slogging away as usual but happy in her work helping those so much in need. The following is just a small extract from her email this week.

"there is such a need for everything in this country,we help out at a wee school just up the road from us,it has 2000 shacks that the people live in.the kids get a meal when they are at school, that will be the only meal they get.some of the kids go to school without any panties on .we have given the teachers some kids panties so that when this happens at least they can put them on..it is so sad to see their wee faces. We also supply baby packs to newborns in this place.

Gill Richardson who was the founder of the BABY PACK PROJECT made the very first ever delivery of our baby-packs to the Ntabeni clinic. This is what she said after that 1st visit

“I was so impressed with the clinic. It is small,

but pretty much a fully-fledged hospital, with

11 staff and operates 24 hours a day. It has a

labour ward and a maternity ward each with

2 beds. I saw a doll in an incubator and was

told it is used to teach new mums how to care

for their babies. There are also consulting/

procedure rooms. A doctor from the government

hospital in Port Shepstone visits on Fridays.

It appears they have a strong supportive

and educational role in the fight against AIDS

and TB. I really admire the staff for all they

do. We were shown around the clinic by

Sister Doreen Zenda - what a lovely, gracious

lady she is. She was so keen to show us

everything and so proud of how nicely the

clinic is kept. Which it is! It really is a life

saver for the community. While we were

there an elderly man arrived having an

asthma attack & in no time at all he was

put on a nebuliser of sorts. Sister Zenda

was very sad to tell us that yesterday a

10yr old boy died at the clinic of snakebite-

they had no way of getting him to the

nearest govt hospital as they have no

ambulance, but they hope to get one soon

- too late for that little fella though.’’

We are also supplying packs to the Ntabeni Clinic and to

Margate Child Welfare, who then distribute them amongst

the needy. We need baby clothes (good condition, newborn

or 0-3 months size),  also cloth nappies, blankets, baby

soap, bibs etc and knitted bears.
