About BabyBird
My name is Katie and I live in Brisbane with my husband, my two sons, two dogs and chooks. In a previous life, I got my degree in Applied Science (Animal Studies) and worked as a vet nurse and in an animal ethics office. Nowadays, I look after my boys and spend a lot of time chained to my faithful Janome, whipping up dog collars and kids clothes.
BabyBird was born from my original project, LoveBird Animal Art, which is my pet portrait and dog collar business. In the same way that I was looking for a different range of clothing for my son, LoveBird Collars was created from my desire to have bright and funky collars for my pooches.
I was inspired to begin customising childrens clothing after struggling to find something 'just a little bit different' for my son. It seemed that everywhere I looked, there were gorgeous girls clothes, but not nearly as much variety for boys. I started out by sewing different patches of my favourite fabrics onto singlets for him, friends then asked me to do the same for their children and I became addicted. My range is still heavily boy-focused, but there are some girls items, as well as many pieces that can be worn by either boys or girls. I create clothing from new fabric, as well as give new life (as shorts) to special old tablecloths, tea towels and other lovely vintage finds.
