Dit is de originele bemanning van K+. Na een opleiding van vijf maanden op het vliegveld van Biggs in Texas waren ze klaar om hun eerste lange afstandsvlucht te volbrengen. In maart 1944 vertrokken ze met een gloednieuwe B-24 naar Engeland om zich te vervoegen bij 8th Air Force. Ze werden onderverdeeld bij de 700ste bommenwerpereenheid, één van de eenheden die behoorde tot 445ste bommenwerpergroep.

Na hun eerste oefenvlucht boven Frankrijk kreeg de bemanning al hun eerste missie boven Duitsland toegewezen, genaamd "Missie 311". Het zou hun enige zijn.

Juist voor deze missie veranderde de bemanning. Vincent McHugh en Bob Lemon (ziek) werden vervangen door co-piloot Francis C. Sneed en schutter James Cockriel. John Mahoney die ook tot deze bemanning behoorde staat niet op de foto, hij nam hem zelf!

This is the original crew of K+. After a five month training in Biggs Airfield, Texas, they were ready for their first long flight. In March 1944, they came with a brand new B-24 to England, to join the 8th Air Force. They were assigned to the 700th Bomb Squadron, one of the squadrons belonging to the 445th Bomb Group.

After one training mission above France, the crew got their first real assignment for Germany, called "Mission 311". It was to be their last.

Just before this mission the crew changed. Vincent McHugh and Bob Lemon (sick) were replaced by co-pilot Francis C. Sneed and gunner James Cockriel. John Mahoney who belonged also to the crew is not on this picture, he took it.
