The Squad Path
The RYA zone squads
The first squad is the RYA area zone squad. There are six areas, the east, south, southeast, southwest, west and North. Each have a separate series of qualifying event, the most important being the zone championships. Details of these events will appear here closer the time. The zone squad training normally consists of six training weekends over the winter.
The Development Squad
This squad was invented in 2004 and is aimed at sailors that fall between the zone squads and intermediate squad. Places are allocated to people coming between 60th and 75th in the national rankings. You can check out your placing on this website!
Intermediate squad
This is an IOCA squad for sailors who fall between 30th and 69th in the national rankings. This squad is aimed at getting sailors to National squad level. The training consists of weekends up and down the country during the winter.
National Squad
This squad provides training for the top 30 sailors in the UK. It is an RYA run squad. By the time you get to here you will know the squad system!
