 Syiare's Story

It all began one cloudy mid-summer day. Syiare was out with his father, exploring the woods behind their new house. When something caught his attention. Being as young as he was he couldn't help but find out what that thing was. Straying away from his father's line of vision he ventured into the woods alone. Little did he know that that first step away from the safety of his parents’ arms would change his life forever.

Rain started in fall in the few minutes after Sy left his father. However the child didn't notice or didn't care to notice and went off to chase the thing that caught his attention in the first place, the little light-green frog that landed on his sneaker only moments before. With his mind swallowed by the goal of catching the little frog he didn't hear his father calling or the rumble of thunder and the flash of lighting close byBy the time he caught the frog the storm was now brewing and the rain falling harder then ever. Syiare now felt the fear creeping along his spine. Staring up at the blackened sky his tears mixed with the rain. The little frog wiggled in his cupped hands, slowly he opened his hands watching as the frog jumped to the ground and into the woods. " Daddy, I'm... scared." Syiare whispered. He sunk down to the ground wrapping his arms around his knees. Lighting flashed so close to Syiare that the flash reflecting in the boy's tear filled eyes. Feeling the heat from the lighting brush against his skin he fell back lying motionless among the damp ground. A trickle of blood dripped from and gash under his right eye. In the distance his father cried out his name.

A lot happened after that stormy day. His life turned from good, to bad, to worst. After discovering his "gift" as his mother called it, his relationship with his father changed. His father barely talks to him, never hugging him as much as he used to. Always watching his son from the corner of his eye. He was afraid of what his only son had become. His mother however encouraged him to use his gift as much as possible, in order to learn how to control it better. Like by learning how to tap into the fuse box when the electricity was out and to jump-start the fames in the fireplace. His mother seemed like the only one who understood; who was always there to offer her shoulder to cry on when kids teased him in school.  But then one day Syiare's life was turned inside out.

It was the four-year anniversary after the accident. His mother late as usual for work, dashed out the door telling her son goodbye, sped down the road as a few raindrops began to fall. Syiare, like any other day walked down to the end of the driveway, standing under the protection of an oak tree, waiting for the school bus to take him away to the building full of nightmares. In the middle of art class the principal called him down to his office. With a face over come with grief he told Syiare that his mother was killed in a car crash. She died instantly. She felt no pain. Syiare numb with the news stood still when for the first time, in a long time his father hugged his son as his tears dripped down the end of his nose making Syiare's shoulder damp with sorrow.

Life after his mother’s death was cold and dark. His father begun to drink. Drowning in his own tears, coming home with cuts and bruises on his face. Syiare, stayed away from his father, hiding up in the tree house that they built two summers earlier. Only coming down for a bite to eat and to take a shower. As time went on thing got worst, his father left for days at a time only coming back to grab some cash to buy more beer. Syiare now twelve finally reported his father to get the help that he needed. While is father was away they sent him to boarding school. He was happy, and for the first time in two years he was free. Life was good and it got even better when he met Anami, developing a strong bond with her. As time went on his father finally gathered his wits about him and was released. Syiare was sent back to live with him. However the nightmares of his past still haunt him to this day.
