ANTELOPE VALLEY CHAPTER HISTORY
CHARTER DATE: SEPTEMBER 20, 1988
20TH ANNIVERSARY IN 2008!
Antelope Valley is an exciting chapter with 33 members . The diverse chapter membership includes a former commercial airline pilot, an astronaut in the shuttle program, several military pilots, glider pilot, helicopter pilot, several women who have raced, others who work for NASA, and a former WASP. We are fortunate to live and work in an active aviation environment.
The chapter changes officers every two years. Our chapter newsletter is called the SKYWORD.
The Antelope Valley chapter has established a successful scholarship program for local future women pilots. The chapter also gives a small scholarship each year for a local junior college aviation student.
History of Activities:
Our St. Patrick’s Day Poker Run is held every year since 1990 and it is a very successful scholarship fundraiser due to our fantastic prizes that are donated to us through our member’s efforts and our communities’ generosity.
APT meetings have been held every year in the Antelope Valley at local airports and member’s homes.
The chapter Christmas social is held every year the first weekend in December. Buffet and potluck with a white elephant auction make this a fun chapter activity before the hectic holidays.
Holiday cookies are given to several airports in our area. This includes personnel as well as tower controllers. We organize this event every year as it is much appreciated and well received.
The chapter has an organized fly out calendar. Our favorites we try to go to every year are Death Valley, Big Bear, Lone Pine, Woodlake, and Kernville.
Other events that Antelope Valley currently participates in are:
Safety meetings
Air races
Tours of FAA facilities
Open House/Fly-In at Fox Field
Talks at local schools
Southwest section meetings sponsored by our Chapter in 1995 and 2003!
