I am a multi-published author.  In the beginning of my career I recieved rejection after rejection from editors saying, "Nice idea, but..."  It took me years of trial and error, reading hundreds of books and articles on how to write well, and lots of tearing apart and rebuilding of my manuscripts.  I want to save you all of that headache and wasted time by guiding you along on your path to publication.  It's like having a writing coach, mentor and editor at your side.  Yes, there are plenty of publishers who will take just about anything in any form.  (I've seen it!)  There are publishers who will publish your book for a fee.  Or, at the last resort, many authors choose to self-publish.  I want to help you get your manuscript good enough to be accepted by a paying publisher.  A publisher who charges no money, is reputable and professional, and hands you royalty checks! 

I also own and operate Love Bites Romance Reviews. I receive books daily from authors who have wonderful story ideas, but needed some help (or a lot of help!) with editing. Why were these books put in print or ebook form if there were so many errors?  Perhaps the editor working for the publishing house is overworked. Perhaps the publisher leaves most of the editing up to the author. Either way, I feel bad for both the author and the publisher when I see books sent out into the world with a multitude of glaring errors. These authors, as determined and talented as they are, may never get in with a traditional publisher, or even a decent paying e-publisher. 

I started Author Services to offer writers a better chance at publication and a way to get their manuscript in it's best form for publication. Let’s face it, after you’ve written a story and gone over it a half dozen times, you become blind to your typos, “head hopping”, pacing, passive voice, poor dialogue tags, and so forth.  With professional editing, proofreading and/or manuscript evalution, you can be sure you're giving your story the best opportunity it possibly can in getting a professional publisher to say yes instead of receiving a rejection.     

While working with you on your project, I offer ongoing support and suggestions.  I don't simply take your work, do the edits, then hand it back.  I keep the lines of communication open!

All prices are based on 26-line pages with 1” margins using Ariel 12 (this is approximately 250 words per page.)

Proofreading: $1.00 a page

Editing: $3 a page

Manuscript Evaluation:

Up to 20,000 words = $30

Up to 100,000 words = $65

I prefer you to email a copy of your manuscript, since this is the quickest, easiest, and least costly method.

Payment can be made via credit card or Paypal (preferred method), check or money order.

I will correct everything that is clearly a mistake. I use Microsoft Works “Change Tracker” so you can see everything I’ve done and can easily accept or deny the changes into your manuscript.

Editing Service $3 per page includes:

This is sometimes called copy editing or line editing. This service includes all of the above proofreading corrections, as well as:

* Change repetitious words

* Cut unnecessary words

* Change passive voice to active

* Improve dialogue tags

* Fix awkward sentence construction

* Eliminate unnecessary or run-on sentences and paragraphs.

Please note that I am here to help get your manuscript into the best shape possible and ready for publication. This is YOUR story, I will not edit your unique voice right out of it. The purpose of this particular service is not to rewrite your entire story for you, but to help you learn to revise your own work according to the notes I write on each page.

Manuscript Evaluation Service:

This service is for authors who want a second opinion on their story before they submit it to a publisher.

As an author, book reviewer, and avid reader I can give is you a written commentary from a reader’s point of view on your story. I have written and been published in many sub-genres of romance, and read and review everything from “Romantica” ebooks to sweet Harlequins and everything in between. I know what’s out there now and what’s being published very soon. I’ll let you know if the plot is gripping, the characters intriguing, and if the story needs just a few minor changes and edits, or heavy edits and changes. I will tell you what I perceive to be your writing strengths and weaknesses, and suggestions on how to improve your technique.

Here is a list of what I will look for when evaluating your manuscript:

A good hook

If the story is better suited to a longer or shorter format

Suggestions on how to make the story or characters more gripping

Cohesion between plots and subplots

Real characters that grow and change throughout the story

Point of view conflicts

If all 5 senses are involved

If I can clearly “see” the setting and feel the “mood.”

Smooth, stilted, flowery writing

If your voice shows in your work

Pacing/Background details/Flashbacks

Properly researched

There is an additional $25 fee if you wish to resubmit your manuscript for a second read-through after making revisions. I’ll let you know if the writing has improved.

Disclaimer: There is no guarantee that having your work critiqued, edited or proofread by me will land you the publishing contract or agent you want, and even if you do received and acceptance letter or email, they may still require further revisions of your story since every publisher is different and has different needs.

Before purchasing any of our services, please format your manuscript as described in the preceding paragraph. This is necessary to calculate the number of pages you're sending.

If you're paying with a check or money order, please multiply the number of pages by $1 for Proofreading or by $3 for Editing. This will be the amount of your check or money order. Please email me and I will send you the address of where to send your payment.
