The Last Lie

In the heart of London, 1940, war is the standard for daily routines. Maggie Keith, an American teacher and embassy translator is torn between leaving the city she loves and burying herself in an effort to protect her students by chaperoning them outside of the city. When her path crosses that of American pilot, Mark Danbury, the decision is ripped from her hands. He is a pilot she can no more ignore than she can quit breathing. In a moment of utter insanity and spontaneity, she marries him.

Finding out that she is to be recruited as an agent for Special Operations Executive division—a newly formed spy network, Mark marries this spunky woman in order to make her ineligible for duty. It’s a sacrifice he’s willing to make, if it saves her life.

But lies have become second hand. Mark refuses to believe that the marriage will last and Maggie, angered by his deception, convinces the recruiter that she can still help. All pretenses are stripped away when they are assigned to work together on a mission that will put both of their lives in danger.
