The Australian Quaker Tapestry Project

Retelling Our Stories

The Quaker Tapestry

Ever since the early days of the colonisation of Australia the Religious

Society of Friends (Quakers) have had a part in bringing peace and

justice to those in Australia.  Quakers have used the Tapestry foimat

to tell the stories of Friends past and present and how they responded

 to the Light within.

The Australian Quaker Tapestry Project seeks to rediscover

the stories through community involvement in helping make

 our own tapestries.

We have been inspired by the development of the British Quaker

Tapestry at Kendall which informs and promotes 350 years of Quaker

values and has been  a worldwide community project. Friends who

have seen it are full of praise for its beauty and marvelous record

of important events.

We seek to now tell our own Australian stories with needleworkers

to make their very own tapestry of the history of Quaker values

and accomplishments in Australia.
