Alas, For the Singing of the Trees
Haldir watches Legolas and Gimli sail from Middle-earth, and wonders if
he will ever sail West himself. Some Silmarillion knowledge helpful.
(If you are unfamiliar with this book please read the notes first for
some helpful background information.)
Characters: Frodo, Gandalf ~ Rating: G ~ Time Period: Pre-War of the Ring (Movieverse)
Fell Deeds, Awake
Of all the things to be bothered by about Helm's Deep (in the movies),
the one that really gets to me is the fact that it's Gimli who sounds
the Horn of Helm Hammerhand. Here's my attempt oto give this quandary a
bit of depth: the conversation between Aragorn and Théoden in the
Hornburg, from a rather Dwarvish perspective. (This story is told from
the movieverse perspective, but borrows from the books, especially The
Hobbit.)
Characters: Faramir, Boromir ~ Time Period: Pre-War of the Ring ~ Rating: PG
Reason for Rating: mild slash themes, though nothing explicit

How Many Years?
The road to the hallows above Minas Tirith is travelled only once a
generation, on the coming-of-age of the current steward's oldest son.
Denethor leads Boromir down that scarce-walked path, and Denethor
finally gives Boromir an honest answer to a question he asked as a
child.

Inheritances
Aragorn was serving in Gondor under Denethor's father Ecthelion when
Boromir was born. What would the Heir of Isildur have thought of the
child who might grow up to become Steward?

Of Hope, Stars and Fate
A short Fourth Age vignette: Beregond muses on the steward who shares
his name, how the two of them were different, and how they were
similar. (Rated PG for references to astrology, which some parents
might find unacceptable for their children.)

Pride and Despair
Even at the very end, Denethor did not simply submit to Mordor but took
the only other action he thought he could. Here is a look at his last
moments, as Denethor thinks back on the memories and relationships that
have defined him. A rather book-based look at a most enigmatic steward.

Galadriel in return? With a look at what exactly Sam saw in Galadriel's
Mirror, and how itimpacted their interaction the next day.

Ships Passing
In the days between the Battle of the Pelennor and the Battle of the
Black Gate, Faramir spends some time at Halbarad's bier in the Citadel.
A vignette.

Yule celebration long ago and his attempts to teach his grandmother a
new year's custom he learned from a human friend.

Until the King Returns
"Then Mardil could no longer restrain [Eärnur], and he rode with a
small escort of knights to the gate of Minas Morgul." But why would any
competent steward let a childless king confront such a dangerous enemy,
and with such a small escort?
Perhaps just a little AU -- this doesn't (to my knowledge) contradict
anything Tolkien wrote, but some people might find my Mardil a bit more
jaded than the one they imagined.
