:: 1940

The wartime programme split the Cheshire League into two regions, with clubs from the West and the East of the Cheshire League divided into two seperate zonal competitions; Hurst competed in the Eastern section.  The winners of the 1939 competition (Droylsden) played off with Hyde (winners of the 1940 competition) to determine an overall winner of the Eastern section, with Droylsden winning 7-5 over two legs.

Droylsden then played Runcorn, winner of the Western League section, to determine the championship; Runcorn won 5-3 after two legs.

:: 1940-41

The Cheshire League stood down from competitive football in 1940, as did several of her member teams.  Hurst and Hyde United joined the Manchester League for the 1940-41 season.  Initially the competition was to be run as two half seasons (as had happened in the Cheshire League over 1939-40), eventually though the league was decided on a combined points total.

Table to follow, teams in the competition were;

Denton United

Urmston

Rossendale United

Hyde United

Hurst

Droylsden

Bacup Borough

Manchester United 'A'

Newton Heath Loco

:: 1941-42

The Manchester League was unable to continue on its own in 1941, so their clubs that were willing to continue playing joined with like-minded teams from the Manchester Amateur League to form the Manchester Joint League for 1941-42.  Hurst's season started late as one wall at the ground had been damaged due to nearby works on an air-raid shelter.

Table to follow, the participating teams were;

Army XI, Ashton

Audenshaw Utd

Avro FC

British Dyes

Droylsden

English Steel

Fairy Aviations

Gosling's

Hurst

Hyde United

Glossop

Manchester City 'A'

Manchester University

Due to the late start and lack of available players Hurst were unable to complete their fixtures for the season.  The club stood down from playing due to economic and logistical problems in the summer of 1942.
