| Dear Friends,
I'd like to recommend a new book that I'm excited about, called A Simple Christmas. Of course, I might be a little biased... I wrote the doggone thing! Unlike my last book (Do The Right Thing) this one has nothing to do with politics. It's a collection of twelve true stories from my own life, ranging from childhood to the present -- all taking place at Christmas time. It occurred to me that most of the values that mean the most to me were driven home at one Christmas or another. For instance, I learned about sacrifice when I was an obnoxious eleven-year-old Beatles fan. I told my parents that if they wouldn't buy me an electric guitar (way beyond their budget) I didn't want anything at all. Sure enough, on Christmas morning, my sister had gifts under the tree, but there was nothing at all for me. But then, just as I was feeling utterly miserable.... Well, I don't want to ruin the story for you. Some of these memories will bring a smile, some may bring a tear, but hopefully they will all help you reconnect with the true spirit of Christmas. After all, the original Nativity was very simple, and had nothing to do with gifts, parties, or beautiful decorations. It was about the things that matter most: faith, family, love, and hope.
