2005 Greenhand Conference Dates Set
There will be three Greenhand Conferences offered this Fall for Wisconsin FFA members. The dates for these conferences are - October 1 -UW-River Falls; October 8 - FVTC-Appleton; and October 15 - UW-Madison. Don't let your young members miss out on this great conference to get them excited about their organization and gain valuable leadership training. The state FFA officers have already started great plans for a fantastic workshop for these students. There will be workshops designed for both the Discovery members (7 and 8th graders) and the Greenhands (9th grade). The cost is $20 per student which includes a t-shirt, meal, snacks, and materials. Registration forms will be posted online shortly after school starts.

Make Sure to Attend the 2005 Sectional Leadership Workshops
All members, advisors, and chapter officers are invited to attend the 2005 Sectional Leadership Workshops. We encourage you to bring your chapter officer team as well as any member who is interested in leadership development and learning more about FFA programs and opportunities. National FFA Officers Brian Hogue, Emily Horton and Jackie Mundt will be conducting workshops for members. There are specific officer training workshops along with a great variety of other workshops for all members in attendance. There are also workshops designed for junior high members. Make sure to attend so that you and your members will be set for the year and know what is happening in your FFA organization.

Advisors will be inserviced on the FFA membership roster for 2005-06 as well as updated on numerous programs and activities. Over 93% of the Wisconsin FFA chapters attend Sectional Leadership Workshops. If you can't attend the workshop in your section, you are definitely invited to attend a neighboring workshop....Just make sure to attend.

2005 Supervised Agricultural Education (SAE) Grants
SAE Grants will be available again this year. The application due date is Nov. 10, 2005. You can download an application from the SAE home page at http://www.ffa.org/programs/sae/index.html.
• 16 - $1,000 grants available for beef/cattle, dairy or sheep production SAEs only. Sponsored by Merial as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.
• 20 - $500 grants available for swine production SAEs only. Sponsored by Akey as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.
• 8 - $1,000 grants available for members in any SAE. Sponsored by Levi Strauss as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.
• 16 - $150 Triangle grants available for SAEs in either agribusiness or farming. You must be from the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota or Wisconsin. Sponsored as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.

FFA Live! On RFD-TV Monday, August 29, 8 - 9 pm Eastern
"What a day! What a month! What an experience!" This is how Eric Fitzgerald, FFA advisor at Turner Ashby High School in Bridgewater, Virginia, described Expedition Chesapeake - a 30-day education journey that he and 16 of his students (all FFA members) completed this summer. Eric and two students will share their experience with FFA Live viewers.

Also featured on this month's show will be an update on LifeKnowledge, an initiative to teach advanced leadership and life skills, with a report on he recent "Delta Conference" where agriculture teachers received intensive training on how to integrate LifeKnowledge into current agricultural education classroom instruction.

A news roundup will feature updates on USDA Secretary Johanns' Farm Bill Forums; the FFA State Presidents' Conference in Washington, D.C.; and the National Agriscience Teacher Ambassador Academy in Lexington, KY.

Teams and individuals competing in the National CDEs have been certified. Chapter advisors will receive information packets directly from National FFA if you haven't already. For the FFA members competing in the National FFA Career Development Events, it is very important that you follow the various deadlines set forth by National FFA.
Deadlines for Manuscripts and Portfolios: All portfolios for Agricultural Communications, Agricultural Issues and Marketing Plan must be submitted to the National FFA Center by Sept. 15, 2005. All cover letters, resumes and references for Job Interview must be submitted by Sept. 15, 2005.

Wisconsin FFA Center Affiliation Fee
Don't forget to pay your 2005-06 Wisconsin FFA Center Affiliation Fee. Invoices were distributed at the WAAE Summer Conference. If you did not attend summer conference, they were sent to you in the mail. Please contact the Wisconsin FFA Center immediately if you need a new invoice. Payment is due September 15, 2005.

2006 District Speaking Contest Dates Needed
If your chapter is hosting a 2006 District Speaking Contest, please e-mail me a confirmed date of when you are conducting your contest. I need to announce these dates at the upcoming Sectional Leadership Workshops.
