I'm now a member of ARBA! YES!!! I am pleased with this.
October 2009, Scarlett is best senior Doe, Curly is best black doe, and that's the news. This at the well-atttended Dorchester Show.
I've had wins!!! Stuart has done well at two shows. His first he got best junior black buck, and in his second show took Best of Breed? Best of Show (something like that) plus a kit I should did well too! YEAH!!!! ATHP's bunnies might actually be good bunnies in the show ring too. -- isn't that totally cool?!?!?! :) yeah for Crystal showing two of my bunnies in the show ring and doing well with them! :)
Looking for Pedigreed broken chocolate doe. I also love my chinchilla coloured does so if anyone has anything that might increase their lines, let me know. :)
If you know of any, let me know. THANKS!
Welcome to AT Home Pets!
AT Home Pets was started years ago as primarily a dog walking and pet sitting business. I was home-based in Kitchener, Ontario and had a good business there. While in Kitchener I also raised mice and guinea pigs. Mostly for personal enjoyment but also to sell the young to various pet stores in the area.
In 2002 I got married! Moved to Exeter, Ontario. Continued my pet sitting business and settled into being married, and eventually having a son. :)
I connected a fellow in London to a friend of mine with rabbits of the meat variety. He gave me a pair of Holland Lops that he no longer wanted to care for, I got another rabbit from someone else and lo and behold I started to have rabbits around the house.
As time has continued I have learned what I like in a rabbit. A curiousity about life. I love a rabbit who wants to know what is going on in the world around it. Gentleness, easy of handling, and while I tolerate some "this is my cage" attitude, I don't tolerate a rabbit who tries to draw blood without due cause. :) Warn me off but don't attack me! :) So I have, and raise rabbits that are just sweethearts. They range from the highly curious (in the rex breeds particularly) to the gentle curiousity of the dwarf to the people friendly Holland Lops. Nice rabbits one and all. :)
I have an active rehoming policy. If you buy a bunny from me and life circumstances change such that you can't keep said bunny, I will happily take the bunny back from you. No refunds though.
With my mice I just expect a nice mouse that doesn't bite when caught. A mouse that has nice colours and a good body. I really like the long-haired variety but find they don't breed true at this stage so a short-haired mouse can carry the long-haired gene, and vice versa. So I raise both long and short-hairs and hope for more long-hairs.
The guinea pigs I raise are lovely multi-coloured pigs.
I think that it would be fun to one day show and breed rabbits and guinea pigs. But I do like to breed good quality rabbits and guinea pigs. Not only to breed a rabbit with a sound personality, but a rabbit that looks the way I want it to as well
