1024 (Isle of Wight) Squadron take Bronze in Interservice Swimming Gala

Cadets from 1024 (Isle of Wight) Squadron took part in the first annual Inter-Service Swimming Gala last Saturday.

They competed against 8 Sea Cadet units and 2 Army Cadet units from all over the Island and managed to reach a respectable third place.

Congratulations must go out to Corporal Danny Bentley (aka CPL Nemo) who has only been with the unit for 5 months after transferring from a Squadron in Manchester.

Corporal Bentley won all the races for his age group and even beat the Navy and Army in the 100m relay race by himself (swimming all legs) when the other cadet units were entering teams of four people to race!

The Swimming Gala is hoping to become an annual event and 1024 Squadron look forward to competing again next year!

Congratulations to all involved!

!!NEW!!

2008 is going to be a very busy time for us here at the SQN and this part of the news is not exception! The SQN has been lucky enough to secure a grant for Ł8000.00 This money is going towards converting one of our classrooms in a state of the art multi media classroom and flight simulator. This will enable all of  the cadets to have access to controlled internet access, a controlled gaming environment for flight simulation purposes and a place to complete all of their academic studies online! This is an amazing opportunity for the Squadron to move forward into the 21st century and we would welcome anyone with any experience in computing/IT to come and help us network the computers and install the internet! The room will be available to be used in March and we will be inviting everyone to come and have a look and play! Some of its features will include: - 40 inch plasma TV screen, 7 PC’s, 2 Lap tops, Printers, Internet, Photocopies, cinema system and storage for all ACP’S and cadets work.
