The Best Astronomy & Space Photos - Everyday
Direct To Your Inbox
Welcome to the Astronomy Picture of the Day site. This is where you not
only get a different incredible picture everyday, but the pictures are
even explained by a professional astronomer. That way, you know exactly
what you are looking at.
Some of the images also change if you scroll over them, showing a
different kind of light or angle. I found this to be really cool! To
get to the archives, you can either click on the Discover the Galaxy
link at the top of the page or the Archive link at the bottom of the
page. There you can find the past Astronomy Pictures of the Day, as far
back as 1995. That’s a lot of pictures! I still haven’t checked them
all out yet.
Another interesting way to view the archives is to go to the Calendar
and browse the archives by the month, in a calendar view. If you
clicked January of 1996, you would then see all the entries for that
month as if they were on a calendar with each day being represented by
the thumbnail of the image for that day.
At the bottom the page, you’ll also find links to the Glossary:
Education, Discuss and About APOD.
Glossary – Here you will find definitions of some of the terms used on the site.
Education – This section is an excellent listing of links to help you
teach astronomy in the classroom. This is a very helpful resource for
teachers!
Discuss – Here you will find the APOD forums where you can discuss all
things astronomical and the image of the day as well with like minded
individuals.
About APOD – Here you can learn how to hotlink/bookmark the site, as
well as, when and how it got started. You can also learn where they
find these amazing images of the universe.
Get ready to explore the galaxy from the comfort of your computer chair!
