Exclusive Crochet by Le-Chat

eco-friendly and unique hand-made items for your wardrobe and home

In fact it was a crocheted Barbie dress that my brother made for me when he was 14 (I was 9) that made me pick up crochet again, when I found it again some five years ago. Often people chuckle a bit when they see my dresses and I don't really understand why. Now I never was a typical Barbie fan. I'm really not that type of girl. Although at one point I did like the genuine Mattel clothing I was just as happy when my mum gave me home made stuff for my fashion dolls.

I believe Barbie is not the best role model for children, but she was something else for me. When I was about 10 and started to design my own craft projects I found 'normal' dolls already a bit too childish to make clothes for. So Barbie was the perfect answer. First one I remember is I copied that dress my brother made (I still have that one, unfortunately mine disappeared after my nieces played with it).

So what I do these days is simply a tribute to the fact that Barbie helped me developping my skills and creativity. Thank you Barbie, Cindy and all your sisters!

I'm curious if other crafters who craft since their childhood have the same kind of experience. You can leave a comment in my guestbook if you like!
