I love the grainy look and feel of single crochet stitches worked in the round. You can make either tubular forms, like my hats and tea cozies, or flat rounds, like potholders.
The regularity of the stitch and the smooth surface this gives inspired me to experiment with simple stencil printing on it.

But at closer look you can see the stitches also form a regular grid, which makes it perfect to embroider on.

Recently I tried felting. My crochet doesn't felt completely, you can still see the rows a bit, which I like because it's a help to embroider on it.
