Whitewash to come!

Sorry guys for not writing for a while. Having said that the songs are still on. I've been sick, camping, away generally and without internet, so here I am.

Unfortunately, the only thing we can hope for is a whitewash. The English have been disappointingly crap, Warney, Pidge and Alfie are retiring and this whole series after being anticipated for so long and being so exciting in its build up has been completely crap. I've got nothing positive out of this series, absolutely nothing. Yeah, I love watching the Aussies demolish sides, but no competition, my favourite players going, and the fact that this whole site has been dedicated to singing out the Barmy Army, means that I feel cheated and gutted.

We haven't been that vocal in our song singing, but could you blame us? Singing is a way of supporting your team and urging them onto better things. What's much better than belting the life out of a weak, limp opposition? Why sing, when the side is doing quite fine without it.

Warney retiring feels like my favourite do, who I've had for 20 years dying. I'm still gutted, even more so if England don't last until day 4, so I can watch warney bowl one last time. At least Channel 9 will make a DVD and a memorabilia piece on it. *sob* I will set up (when I have time) a site for songs for the ICC World Cup. Should be fun finding sledging points for all sides (even the already crap ones) and some good players. Hopefully the competition won't be as crap as the Ashes have been. Stay tuned for that.

Symonds chosen, time to for Monty Mental Disintegration.

The Aussies have named Roy in the side, as we all expected and I hope that for the excitement of cricket he plays like a 100 from 100 balls player he is. His flexibility will be crucial to Australia wrapping up the Ashes and on the way to a 5-0 attempt to whitewash the series. Given that the Poms are playing silly buggers with their side, we can only assume that they are getting rid of drop the ball, can't bat, can't bowl Wheelie Bin Giles and choosing Panesar. That being the case, it is time to mentally disintegrate him and target him. Whilst his fielding is no worse than Giles, it is bad, and with a bit of pressure from the crowd, it should be harder for him to focus. Flog all the Monty songs here, come up with your own and spread the word to everyone to go for Monty in a spirited, cricketing (non racist) way. It is our national obligation. If they win this, they are only one win from getting a draw to retain the Ashes. C'mon Aussie, your country needs you!

Hoping Symonds does well.

Sorry I haven't been writing for a while, I have had my Computer Sub Box work going on (I like that project) and my anniversary, so I've been a bit lax. Sorry guys.

I'm kinda glad that Andrew Symonds has been selected, because I had him in the "never to play Test Cricket again" basket, so his recall has been good. I also think that calling up Adam Voges was a good idea. I think that probably, there should be a batsman from each state chosen in each squad to get them used to the scene. I mean realistically it could have been Marcus North, Luke Ronchi from WA, Clinton Perren from Qld, half the Vic side and Tas as well, plus Dom Thornely from NSW. There are a few very good domestic batsmen.

Symonds was chosen because he extracted 5 wickets as a part timer on the WA pitch against WA, and given that both sides had troubles taking wickets for 4 days on the Adelaide pitch, he might be the key. He offers flexibility and variation, a very good swing bowler (something Australia lacks without choosing Bracken or Johnson) and offspin if the pitch deteriorates. I would absolutely love it if he really hit his straps this time. I think that he could be one of those players who draws people to watching Test Cricket consistently. If the guy goes out there and scores 60 from 60 consistently, it would be fun to watch. So I hope he does well.

Finally, congrats on Damien Martyn's career. The poor bastard got blamed for the loss against South Africa in 1993/94, yet has been a loyal servant of cricket. Even if he stuffed up, so have Cricket Australia with him in the past, so pay out his money. It will discourage old players for staying on for money.

One of the most amazing wins ever?

I thought Ponting was talking the talk, when he said to Mark Taylor that Australia still believe they can win the game. I mean, who really thought they could?

Two key points in the game - one Giles dropping Ponting and two, the Bell runout and the implosion from there. The big problem with England is that they reverted to type and mentally didn't have the guts when it counted. Realistically, if a pitch yields over 1000 runs over two innings, then 70 runs from 54 overs is clearly unacceptable. But you sensed that when push came to shove, that they didn't have the absolute courage to push for a better result. It started by choosing Wheelie Bin Giles over Panesar, and ended with the slow implosion of an oversized supernova.

The funny thing about Australia, even if you don't get the feeling that they will win, they think they can win anything, even if they don't. That's a good sign, because when the going gets tough, they have this mentality that they will win, and that stops events like 54 off 70 overs, and 7 runs from one ball from overthrows.

We need to sing more, the only reason the Aussies got loud is because they are winning and we need to drown out the Barmy Army. Whilst England can't maintain dominance on the field, the Barmy Army are managing to do so off it. C'mon people, songs, singing and lots of cheering please. Waaaaarnie, Waaarnie is like a slow hand clap and about as inventive as the Barmy Army's "Barmy Army" chant.

Hands up - who thinks England will have the balls to push for a result?

Not you either? Can't quite blame you. I can't quite blame them in a way, given they've got 3 more tests after this, and basically they can win one and draw two more and still keep the Ashes. Funny enough I used to watch "The Bill" (6 or more years ago) and the cops were saying "Good result" all the time - too bad their cricketers didn't think the same.

One of my non cricket watching friends asked me how you can watch a game for 5 days for a draw. I think this game has been extremely tense, but it will end up in a draw, but still be such intriguing cricket to watch. It's becoming a real comeback for Test Cricket, it is such a good, interesting, intelligent game. Plus who can complain about sitting and drinking beer for 5 days? I think not me, baby puppy.

Flintoff could be injured and breakdown. Interestingly I said to my boss yesterday that the radio was saying that he was down on pace, and he made nothing of it. I said back that he may have match fitness troubles. I feel sorry for the guy. Until Hoggard did something, he was carrying the team's bowling, as well as being captain.

Finally, a funny quote from yesterday's baggygreen typecast. It went something along the lines of "Harmison to take the 2nd over after lunch. He's having a bowl to his team mate at mid-on. Only now, he's just warming up." He he he. First 2nd slip, now mid on, what next? Deep backward of square leg? Te he he.

Game almost evenly poised after 3 days.

I can't believe the level of fightback England have provided, it's incredible and good for the series' excitement. And no, I haven't been absent because our English opponents are suddenly doing well, I've been sick as a dog and been unable to do anything except sleep in front of the cricket (and when that happens, you know I'm sick).

More amazing is that Punter reckons we are a chance of pulling off the game if we can overtake the total and England set us a total to win. If they have the guts, that is. Let's hope Gilly plays an innings like he did for WA vs Qld 100-odd off half as many balls. Sounds like that would really put the wind up the old Empire. I will write more, when I am a fair bit better.

Selectors in a Quandry, more Gabba Crap Policing

Selectors have a few (good) headaches after Stuart Clark mopped up England where Glenn McGrath started, with the two of them finishing with almost identical figures. Keep them both in. I'm happy for McGrath and Langer, where people were questioning their place in the side, they came out and performed like the old champions they are. Lee might be dropped according to some sections of the media. I think it would be a harsh call, but realistically he has probably only got one more test to perform or find that Tait, Johnson or Bracken have ended up with his spot. MacGill's figures at Adelaide are average (as are Warne's), so I don't think they should play two spinners.

Finally, I have heard more stories of police arrogance and stupidity, with the majority of supporters both Australian and English clearly fed up (read: Courier Mail blog) and upset at being treated like children and criminals. Quite frequently were the words "discrimination", "terrorist", "police state", "Joh" and "sterile" used. Aussies are (and we should be) apologising to the Pommie Fans. Even more so, given that singing, beach balls, trumpets and stuff like that are being allowed in Adelaide and Sydney.

I have had friends and collegues since resign from the Australian Cricket Family in full in disgust, and many vowing never to return to the Gabba. When the Courier Mail (local paper) features headlines such as "Fun Police: Not sorry for crackdown" and the d!ckhead Gabba Manager going on Channel 9 and 10 saying that he isn't sorry for even the inconvenience caused by not informing patrons of the new backpack rules prior to coming to the ground, smacks of arrogance and will ensure that the Gabba will not be the ground of choice for any Queensland Cricket watchers. Those who can afford it are already saying that they would rather fly to Sydney and watch it at the SCG.

If you have been the victim of this arrogance or are upset at the treatment the normal cricket patron has received, I suggest you contact Cricket Australia and protest in the way you see fit. The cricketing public does not deserve this heavy handed, big brother approach.

It won't rain until late

Interesting hearing all the naysayers out there saying Ponting shouldn't have batted again, too bad if it's a draw because of rain, blah blah. Steve Waugh enforced the follow on in India and India ended up winning, so it isn't necessarily anything bad. And those saying it's pure arrogance are complete idiots, because if anything, it's a sign of respect that they thought "with 2 days, England could get 450 and post a total". I think that it is respect, and not a show of complacency that plagued Australia's trip to England in 2005.

It will not rain before about 4.00 and if Australia haven't won the game by then, then good luck to England. It is overcast, the cloud is too high to rain, and given that it is muggy, the storm will come at 4.30ish, the same as they always do in this part of the world. Until then, there will not be enough rain to cancel the game.

Disgraceful Police will turn away all future cricket watchers

I have been away for a couple of days camping, so I haven't had the time to put my two cents/pence in. I saw a lot of Englishman and women. Easy to pick, they have red shoulders and white stomachs, trying to imitate the cross of St. George.

I thought I'd dedicate the day's blog to the actions of police that have been making huge amounts of press, here and probably everywhere else. My boss went the other day (he is a dual citizen of England and Australia) and he was appalled at the treatment the police were handing out. It was apparently close to martial law. His summation of the quote was "you aren't allowed to have a beach ball, anything else that could be fun. Sit there for 8 hours, shut the **** up and watch cricket". There were English supporters who were ushered out like criminals for doing nothing. And the police were quite rude in telling people to move on.

SHAME ON YOU - CRICKET AUSTRALIA AND QLD POLICE

I live in Brisbane and people here are amongst the politist, most accommodating people I've ever met. I've lived in other areas in Qld and NSW for many years, before settling here 4 years ago and found that I love Brisbane for the polite atmosphere of its people.

Brisbane sells out one dayers consistently. We have the better behaved crowds, consistently. To be treated like children and criminals is a travesty. People pay upwards of $25-$50 to your coffers to see this game and this is how you treat them. I have 2 kids and I am not going to take them to either the Twenty20 Big Bash, Commonwealth Bank One day series or any other cricket. And unless there is an improvement, I never will. If you want a way to thoroughly alienate supporters, treat tourists like criminals and stuff up the tourism industry and generally behave like arrogant SOBs, you've found it.

Just don't be suprised if you get poor attendances at test matches next year. Serves you right.

Punter stuffs up century, Poms in trouble

Ponting missed out on a double century today, falling to Matthew Hoggard in a double wicket over that also claimed Gilly. What's with Gilly? He had the same problem with the black sheep a couple of seasons ago. Those mungbeans figured out he was susceptible to the swinging ball bowled around the wicket. Gilly, c'mon, figure it out. We missed out on a good slogfest today.

How good was McGrath though? Beefy the stirrer Botham was calling him old, everyone was making comments, and the old boy took a couple of good crucial wickets. This bloke could deadset play till he's 100. Onya pidge, we never doubted you. Interesting to see the selectors' mentality come to fruition. Strangle them slowly. Clark bowled really well and with him and McGrath bowling together, it was sweet to watch them take some good wickets. And he whacked a few good fours. Sweet!

Finally, as a Brissie boy, I'm ashamed of how stupid and anal our piggies are. C'mon, the bloke had a trumpet and you evict him. Shame on you. All us Aussie supporters are happy for the Barmy Army to carry on like porkchops and sing crap songs. We can come up with better songs too. Acting like the "fun police" (Channel 9 news came up with that) shows that we can't take a joke and that's crap. Grow up Piggies, no-one will ever come here again if you act like Sir Joh Bjelke-Peterson's goons.

Punter scores century, Aussie on top

Australia have finished on top after Punter scored a century, building on earlier work done by Justin Langer. Did Punter ever look like he wouldn't get a century? I think not smelly pommie.

Surprisingly, was that both supporters weren't incredibly loud. The Barmy Army were quieter than usual and the Aussie supporters were almost trying, meaning that both groups were about level. Maybe we spooked them? Given that they are used to cheering despite not winning, they were unusually quiet. Make sure we keep supporting Aussie and belting out those songs.

Finally, a new tune - just a quickie. Given Giles (Wheelie Bin) is playing rather than Monty, a quick song to him. To the tune of "Evie" (let your hair hang down):

Wheelie, Wheelie, wheelie keep sendin em down Wheelie, Wheelie, wheelie so we bash ya'round

D-Day - Clark chosen over Johnson

It's finally here, the opening Ashes game and we are all so hanging out for it. In interesting news, the selectors chose Stuart Clark over Mitchell Johnson for the game, citing the balance of the side after Watson's departure as being the crucial factor. I heard two guys talking about this and they came to the same conclusion - Clark has proven himself in a short career and he is also able to send down some decent overs, an issue for Johnson if he pushes too hard. Having said that, the side will change significantly during the series, and I think that once Watson is back (hopefully for Adelaide), apart from selecting MacGill in Adelaide and Sydney (and possibly Perth - who'd've thunk it?), Johnson will get a go on a faster pitch.

If you are like me and are at work, then listening on the radio (other than taking an extended beer lunch hour) is the option. But because the link is a pain in the rear to find, we've given it to you here. An Aussie song for the Ashes - supporting Australia everywhere.

1 Day to go!

One day to go - that's the length of a pyjama game, and Tait sent home to play in Pura Cup

I don't think I've ever seen a series so anticipated as this one. We were looking forward to the Indians a few years back because they provide such a good contest, but for sheer passion, this Ashes series has it all beat.

On the train, I hear people talking about whether they think Clark, Johnson or Tait should be chosen and that we should have extended Cricket Lunch hours. The TV has "the Barmy Army and England are here, and the Ashes are on". There is a real feel about this and I'm excited about that.

On other topics, I still stick by my 5 bowlers option. Give Brett Lee plenty of batting practice and use the variety of Johnson to compliment McGrath and Lee. Clark should be the other bowler, if nothing else than sheer workload and economy. Plus he got a few wickets in South Africa.

Just in: Shaun Tait has been sent home to SA, and will play in the Pura Cup game, allowing him to maintain match fitness and press for further selection. I really hope that Mitchell Johnson is selected, because he is a left arm swing bowler with a bit of nip.

Finally, as you might have read, I wasn't real thrilled with the racial abuse hurled at Monty, I think it's deadset wrong and un-Australian. However, when it comes to heckling him for his cricket ability, I have no issue. In Adelaide, he looked spooked playing in front of only a couple of thousand people, so he may be suspect to some nerves. Between that and his seeing a sports psychologist, he might be quite liable to crack with a bit of heckling, so I think we should make a special effort to give Monty an Aussie Ashes welcome. So get together your favourite Monty songs (I have a few too) and give his some curry (no pun intended). Unless they decide to play Wheelie Bin Giles.

Songs from the South Australia vs England Tour Match

Thanks to Jason from SA for a bit of song news from the 3 day Tour Match.

Apparently the Barmy Army didn't shut up and stop singing all day. That was for a tour match, let alone what they will do once the actual cricket starts. Apparently the atmosphere was brilliant too. Anyways, here is a couple of songs from the match to add to your repetoire: (To the tune of "Countdown ladies sing this song, do dar, do dar")

Kevin Pieterson's (or any player) got no pubes. Doo Da, Doo Da!
Kevin Pieterson's got no pubes. Oh Da Doo Da Day.
KP's got no pubes!
KP's got no pubes!
Kevin Pieterson's got no pubes. Oh Da Doo Da Day.

and to the tune of "Heeeeeey baby, oh ah, I wanna know-ooooooooow, if you'll be my girl" (anyone who attends a Broncos game will know this one)

Hey, hey Freddy. Who Ha! I wanna noooooo, If you''ll grow some hair (dye your hair/pubes).

To the tune of 'hail to the bus driver'.

Heeeeeyyyy Freddy, hey Freddy, hey Freddy.
Heeey Freddy, your poms are no good!

(I added the following)

One's psycho, one's gay
We'll fall asleep, when they play,
Heeeeeeeyyy Freddy Flintoff, you Poms are no good.

Cheers to Jason, and if any valued readers have any news or songs, please don't hesitate to email.

Watson injured, Tait may also miss First Test

I don't think up the poo is quite there, but not far. Watson seems to polarise people on his ability, some I know think he's overrated, I think he is a work in progress. With age on his side, he could be a very handy allrounder. More importantly, he was there to take some pressure on Australia's ageing attack. I think that McGrath needs Watson because he is getting older, Brett Lee doesn't like long spells and the third bowler isn't exprerienced enough. More importanly, what does Bracken have to do. For a NSW-man, he is struggling to be selected, which is unusual. I think that he needs to be there. As for Clarke, I still think that Hodge should be in the side. The guy is hitting runs and there are several batsman who are in better form than Clarke, though he has hit two 50's against England, so I hope he hits form.

First Ashes Test Team named.

The First Ashes Test Team has been named as follows:

Ricky Ponting
Adam Gilchrist
Stuart Clark
Matthew Hayden
Mike Hussey
Mitchell Johnson
Justin Langer
Brett Lee
Damien Martyn
Glenn McGrath
Shaun Tait
Shane Warne
Shane Watson

I think more importantly is the note down the bottom:

For information, the 13th man will return to home port no later than the morning of the first 3 mobile Test match and the 12th man will be released to play domestic cricket in the games commencing Friday 24 November.

That was my biggest issue if they selected any side, was that the twelfth man would be stuck on the sidelines and get rusty. I think the thing that has made this side so hard to choose is that all the bowlers have been in good, wicket-taking form and we've been able to see that clearly through the domestic and tour matches being played. It will give players a chance to continue their push for selection and more importantly keep them match fit and in form, which is something we will definately need this summer. If we can continue showing the depth we have, then we can give the Poms a good run for their money. Congratulations to Cricket Australia and the selectors for such an intelligent policy.

People I feel sorry for are Nathan Bracken and Michael Clarke. Bracken has done nothing wrong in his push for selection - his form has been superb and I think he probably should have been chosen ahead of Tait for his ability to swing the ball. Maybe it's just that he has to host the Australian Idol final that weekend? Michael Clarke I feel sorry for because he hasn't been given much chance to push for selection. He basically is stuck in the one day side batting at number 6 and getting very little time. I hope he can post lots of solid runs on the board and return to form.

Finally, good on Damien Martyn, Shane Watson and Stuart Clark. They all have done nothing wrong and have returned to form despite their setbacks. I hope that Watson can give some real effective relief to the bowlers and that Martyn is so hanging for revenge that he forgets his usual languid, casual attitude and really goes for them. Stuart Clark has done everything right to come back and some wickets against England didn't hurt. If McGrath gets injured, his continued form will be invaluable.

Monty Panesar racially abused.

Apparently, yesterday when NSW were playing the English XI, Monty Panesar was racially abused (read story: here). I'm not validating the story or the accusations, as my Indian grandfather says, too many people can jump on the racism bandwagon and it serves no-one any good. However, if it is true, I'm truly ashamed of the supporters. As a first generation Australian of Anglo-Irish-Indian descent, I find it embarassing that we still give this sort of treatment out to opposing teams. Ironically, I don't think that the Aussie public is inherently racist as a rule (though there are obviously some exceptions to the rule). I'm of the opinion that some of the people doing it are drunk and/or trying to put the visiting team off, not necessarily racist themselves.

However, I do not in any way condone that type of behaviour. If Australians want to be know as something other than braindead bogans, then we need to be rid of this behaviour. I wholeheartedly supporter the banter that goes on to put the visiting team off their game, but do not approve when that crosses the boundries into racism or vilification. The Australian mentality and general public are better than that, and we need to eradicate this from our grounds and the minds of the stupid minority who practise this outdated and antiquated behaviour. Sing songs, bag the Poms, but in the end, we are all people and we need to respect each other. Brett Lee will try to knock the head off and opponent on the field, but off it, is good friends. We need to understand that opponents on the field, does not allow us to behave like racist yobbos - ever. I'm proudly Aussie, as my songs attest, but Monty's family is from a place not far from where my Indian part of the family is from. You wouldn't vilify me on the streets (though I'm so pale, you wouldn't know), don't do it on the ground.

PM XI beat Poms, NSW dominating, as Cricket Australia finally wake the hell up to themselves about songs.

Sorry, I haven't been on for a few days, with ISP issues and such. Big news is that the PMXI didn't just beat the Poms but smashed them. I never think that a PMXI one-day game is too good a gauge (and pointless really, given that we won't see any one day cricket for 2 months). It is possible to blame jet lag, or at least lack of condition fitness for the loss. The game vs NSW (if it stops raining), is a better gauge. The English attack seems unable to deal with them, and that is on a pitch and in conditions closer to England than some grounds (read Gabba and WACA). I hope that the weather continues to get hotter for the English here.

What's with Cricket Australia and their "support the Aussies and limit the Barmy Army" approach. Firstly, it was "make the ground green and gold", whilst they charge us $100 a pop for the privilege and now they (along with ABC) are commissioning some songs to support Aussie - using an expat Pom as the inventor. I contacted CA a few weeks back to ask them and didn't get even a reply. I have 7 lists (List #1 is being replaced) full of songs, better than the one I did hear on the ABC. Don't get me wrong, I love the ABC and I don't mind CA, I just think that they are becoming quite short sighted. This should have been done weeks ago, not 1 1/2 weeks outside the First Test. You can't get something moving that quick, not when it is against the usual culture of Aussie supporters.

On the upside, he did say that "Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi" should be banned. True True. We are a better and prouder sporting nation than that!

Watson makes interesting claim, as Ponting has a brain spasm

Here is an interesting story. Apparently Shane Watson thinks that there is a case for both him and Andrew Symonds to play as All rounders/Bowling Batsmen. Read the story here. Even I think that it is a bit far fetched for Symonds and Watson to play (and I'm a Queenslander), though if both are in really good batting form, it would be quite fun to watch. I think Symonds needs to get his Test head right, to even be a chance of ever playing Test cricket again.

In another story, Ricky Ponting has claimed that the selectors should not select Watson, because the bowlers they have will do the job. He is the Australian captain and deserves respect for that, but is he deadset on drugs? We have 36 year old McGrath and 37 year old Warne heading our bowling lists. I would think that having an allrounder in the side who can bowl will do a lot for the Aussie side with ageing warriors and get them through the 5 test series.

Was young Ricky too young to remember the West Indies - a fearless side for many years, but by the time Courtney Walsh and Curtley Ambrose retired, had no decent bowling stock in reserve and their fall was spectacular indeed. Australia would do well to heed this example and play an allrounder and seriously consider using 5 bowlers plus the allrounder in the side to give their attack some scope, room to move, competitive edge (for wickets in the game), flexibility and variation. We have the stocks in our bowling to a reasonable degree, but we need to bring all these on, and having them play with McGrath and Warne and learning will do them the world of good.

There's no use waiting until 3 tests in, McGrath breaks down, bringing in a couple of rookies who Australia rely on for not just match experience but to lead the attack. Learn from the Windies - Please!!

Big News! (updated)

Our good friends at Beat The Poms are going on telly. You will see them on Brisbane Extra on Friday at 5.30pm. (will check youtube after to see if I can post it)

Beat the poms are a Brisbane based group of supporters who sell T-shirts via the web (and ebay) for a very reasonable $24.95 (+P&H for Non Brisbane-ites who can't pick the shirts up). They also supply words to the 5 songs on the back of the shirt (Waltzing Matilda, etc)

Their big thing is that we need to provide colour (Green & Gold) to counter the heap of Red & White of the English Supporters. And at less than $25, it is far less cynical than Cricket Australia's "pay $100 or more for a shirt to support Aussie". Visit them and buy a shirt, especially if you are lucky enough to hold tickets to a test match. I don't get any kickbacks for this, I'm just happy to support a group that is trying to make supporting Aussie with good colour affordable. I'm quite irritated with CA for being so greedy.

YaY - List #6 is here!
I'll try to update this every day or two, or change something, so keep coming back!

Find what you are looking for at eBay

Gotta love the Ashes, the hype is just getting bigger and better, and makes it quite fun to watch. But the biggest problem with the Ashes is the Barmy Army.  Not only do we play the poms, but a whole truckload of 'em come out here to cheer their team on.  And the worst part of it is - they do a better job of it than us.

Now before you go and send me mountains of hate email, think of this.  We go to the cricket, drink heaps, do the mexican wave and then what?  Cheer when we score a 4, or take a wicket and that's it.  Other than the odd "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi,Oi, Oi", "You are w@nker" (usually to the security guard - not the poms) or "C'mon Aussie, C'mon", we do squat.

The Barmy Army never shut up.  They sing all day and taunt our players, while we drink beer and abuse the moron guard who takes our big beach ball off us.  That's going to help the poms.  Take a look at what one of our own papers has said on this: Barmy Armys prepares new songs.  The forums on Foxsports, Daily Telegraph and Cricket Webs are the same. For those who didn't want to go there, some of the songs and coments are:

"Get your Stars off our flag"

"God save YOUR Gracious Queen".

"You all live in a convict colony" (to the tune of Yellow Submarine)

"You stupid Colonials/Convicts can't have OUR ashes".

So we need to shut them up, make our guys feel like they're at home, not the pommie cricketers. Give the supporters some of their own stuff back, or their banter will drown us.

We can't rely on a large crowd of noisy, England-hating, Steve Waugh/Australia loving Indians (my grandfather is Indian so see disclaimer up top). to do our cheering for us. We need to do it ourselves and we need to drown out the Barmy Army, and weaken their spirits. If we barrack loud enough and long enough, we will reduce their ability to get on top of us. That means that their team won't have the same level of support and our team will have more support.

We need to use our numbers to make sure Punter, Gilly, Haydos, Pidgeon, Warnie and co know that they are playing in Oz, not pommieland, and not rely on the sunny weather, heat and general better conditions to tell them. How discouraging would it be to know you are in Australia and to hear the opposition's supporters more than your own?

We need songs and to bug the hell out of their supporters and players.  No more lame, outdated songs - C'mon Aussie C'mon was around when Lillee was playing, now he's coaching teams young enough to be his grandkids.

So this is my tribute to the poms and their army.  Download these, copy the lyrics, rock up to the cricket and give 'em curry.  We need the ashes back in Oz, where they belong.

Re:How we can beat the Barmy Army: Ken, I was at the SCG about 10 years ago (not exact) and the barmy army were in great voice, the crowd were really enjoying it (as the aussies were kickin butt in the middle as well, so it was great) but the army came out with this song, "can you here the aussies sing, we cant here a ####ing thing" ...which most of us found very funny.... anyway the next thing we know the whole crowd around us started belting out the best version of "waltzing matilda" you would ever here.... well the barmy army got so P!ZZED OFF they started fights with anyone who was singing, you could imagine the carnidge that insued, (I was hardly involved of course) ......

Another Quote: And Al Mac? Your kind of chant is the reason our fans are ridiculed the world over for the lack of inventiveness in our singing - think "Aussie Aussie Aussie." So the best way to get to (or beat)the army, just start singing over the top of them...... gee they hate that......

Legal Stuff:  I have all the copyright and rights to these.  Rights of everyone else is limited, except where I post your songs, then the rights are all yours.  I encourage you to download these, use them and place them on your site, just don't change them and if using them, give me the credit.  If putting them on your website or email, please link back to my site.  Cheers and have a beer.
If you find the use of the word pom or anything here offensive, sorry, but realistically, if I was being a bigot, I'd be less lame about it.  There are real racists to chase after, go after them.  As for the singing, given how awful I sing, there you have a reason to be angry.  But I'm just a boofhead with a few beers in him singing a crowd song.  In a group, it'll sound great, and give the Barmy Army some of their own medicine back

The Sound files that were here are goneskies. I didn't think that they represented the best songs, nor the best that the site has to offer. I'm not sure whether to do some new ones of the better songs, it will be a matter of time and whether that is still the direction of the site. If you think that they (or some new ones) should be there, please email me, using the link below.

Take a look at this Blog, some of the songs are funny, but some are lame or have a tune we don't know. I've posted one and put a couple more that I've seen or been given below:

(sung to the tune of "Meet The Flinstones")

Flintoff
Freddie Flintoff
He?s a cricketing anomaly
?cause he
plays for England
and has a batting average over 3

But when
The pommies come to OZ
They will
Get a rude shock because
Flintoff
Freddie Fintoff
Will have his head knocked off
By our Brett Lee

Sung to the tune of Living Doll, by Cliff Richard (from cricketblogs)

Got myself a yawning, boring, pasty, nagging, whinging pom
Got to do your best to leave her just cause she's a whinging pom
She's got a lazy eye & big fat thighs from all those chips & pies
She's not the only boring, pasty, nagging, whinging pom

Sung to the tune of Push Up:

Stand up! If your towel is wet,
Stand up! If you?ve showered yet,
Stand up! If you?re not a stinkin? Pom,
Stand up! If you?re Australian.

Sung to the tune of Khe Sahn:

They left their land with thoughts of victory;
And travelled down to Oz, with hopes that they would see;
An English team that didn't suck;
And the Ashes Urn regained;
Oh, how foolish are the Barmy Army!

The Aussie team is ready for this fight;
Wining the Ashes, is Australia's given right;
The Poms bought up all our tickets;
And bitched about our wickets;
But they'll crumble under Australia's cricket might.

The last English victory has been and gone;
And I'd cry too if I had ever been born a Pom.
We've got them really worried;
They'll be leaving in a hurry,
Once we've held the Urn aloft they'll know we've won.

I personally would love Khe Sanh, it's the quintissential Aussie song and would send shivers up the crowd's spine, a-la Waltzing Matilda at the World Cup in Germany.
