Writing and Reading Tips
6-Tips to Stop That Writer's Block
The following were meant to get the writing juice's flowing.
1.   Record yourself talking for a few minutes and go back -
write a summary.
2.   Pretend you are one of your characters in your book and
ask someone to interview you as that character.
3.   Write down 10 questions of your own about your book
and then answer them.
4.  Spend 1-minute free-writing whatever you want. Free-
writing is like a warm-up before the real writing begins.
5.  Set deadlines and keep them, then reward yourself, even if
its a night off to do nothing but put your feet up and watch TV..
6.   Just write. Stop procrastinating right now. Thats an order!
How bad do you want to finish that project? And, are you
willing to do what is necessary to get the writing job done?

Required reading in African-American Literature
by Ricco Villanueva Siasoco

Who said the classics were all written by dead white males?
In the last two hundred years, black writers have contributed
some of the most spirited and important works to American literature. These range from early narratives depicting slavery to modern works dealing with the lingering effects of slavery, racism and apartheid. In fact, some of the most risky work
these days is being written not only by African Americans, but Americans of Dominican, Jamaican, and Haitian descent. Not
to mention black writers in Africa and Europe.

On, Author- Shani Dowdell, attending the 1st Annual Disability Fair in Columbus, GA
The Disability Fair hosted by life coach Brandy Dawson-King
was AWESOME!! I sold 7 books, but even better I got the
hook up with some great contacts including one that will lead to
an interview with Columbus Urban Connection and another that
may turn out to be a prosperous partnership with a syndicated
radio show host who supports independent authors. I'll be
talking to him in the coming weeks about some other projects
he wants to start and needs help with.

The most lasting moments I had though was when a visually impaired man [my now good friend, Willie] and I was cutting up. He said that he was looking forward to (my novel) Mocha Chocolate: Taste A Piece of Ecstasy [which will be in
audiobook form! by the way]. When I told him Mocha
Chocolate
may be too hot for him, he asked me had I seen
Ray (the movie) and then he started feeling up my arm like Ray Charles. He had me cracking up. The table for the blind and
deaf was beside mine and they were happy to hear that my next book would be in audiobook form, as well as print.

Overall, it was a prosperous event because of all of the
networking and the ability to support a worthy cause.

Decision Making: One Day at a Time
    by Tinisha N. Johnson

Decisions- What do they mean to each one of us?  Some
people have a hard time making decisions and may even change them frequently, while others- decision making skills may come quickly and stable. The Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary gives
    this definition of decisions:
The passing of judgment on an
issue under consideration or firmness of character or
    action; determination
    .

"Character Counts" is a non-profit organization which
highlights seven guidelines for the decision making process.
It’s called the Seven-Path to Better Decisions:

    1.         Stop and Think

    2          Clarify Goals

    3.         Determine Facts

    4.         Develop Options

    5.         Consider Consequences

    6.         Choose

    7.         Monitor and Modify

However, most people may choose the sixth step first and then proceed with the first step.

Let’s take a moment to judge our own lives, right here,
right now. Whatever situation or issues that are evolving in our
life, consider them and acknowledge them. Consciously open
your eyes to what is going on in your life. We all have a flock of opinions.  Start by judging your own life and giving an honest opinion of it. We may be surprised by what we discover.

The decisions we make right now can change our entire life
for better or worse. By the time you read to the end of this
article, make a decision about something in your life that you’d
like to change or improve and act on it.

“Some people just aren't good at making decisions. One
cause for differences in decision making may lie just above your eyes, in a brain structure called the ventromedial prefrontal
cortex. In an experiment studying a group of people with
damage to that specific area in the brain, a team of psychologists based at the University of Iowa discovered that the
ventromedial prefrontal cortex may aid decision making by providing access to a storehouse of emotionally-tinged             memories.” (Samanna Productions Inc.)
Plainly put, we’ve all encountered different experiences in
life, emotionally, physically, or spiritually.  We take in
information differently, so when deciding what to do, various
factors in our brain begin to take effect.
Let’s evaluate our current condition to figure out what
decisions we’ve made in the past that have gotten us to where
we are presently.  If you currently like your situation, make a
note of what you have done in the past and make more
    decisions that have gotten
you where you are.  If you currently don’t like where you are, then make a note of the decisions you could have made differently in the past. List some of the consequences they now have on your life.  When we
consciously become aware of what is going on, we can access
it, change it, andcmake a better decision.

Decisions are a big part of each of our lives. Decisions can
mean the difference between a world of happiness and a world filled with pain and regret.

    Just for Laughs
    What gender is a computer?

An English teacher was explaining to his students the concept of gender association in the English language.

He stated how hurricanes at one time were given feminine
names and how ships and planes were usually referred to as
"she".  One of the students raised their hand and asked - "What gender is a computer"?

The teacher wasn't certain which it was, so he divided the class
into two groups, males in one, females in the other, and asked
    them
to decide if a computer should be masculine or feminine.
Both groups were asked to give four reasons for their recommendation. The group of women concluded that
computers should be referred to in the masculine gender
    because:

    1. In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on.
    2. They have a lot of data but are still clueless.
    3. They are supposed to help you solve your problems, but half
the time they ARE the problem.
    4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that, if you had
waited a little longer, you could have had a better model.

The men, on the other hand, decided that computers should definitely be referred to in the feminine gender because:
    1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic.
    2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
    3. Even your smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory
    for later retrieval.
    4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.
