Brigitte Cheyrou

"Yellow & Red"

Acrylic on Canvas     30" X 24"

About ....

Previously a French professor teaching at universities and colleges, Brigitte has been devoted to painting for the last seven years. On moving to Cape Cod, painting seized her imagination and, starting in watercolours and then oils and acrylics, she has since created hundreds of paintings. Basically a self-taught artist, she has worked with Ray Heus, who introduced her to the exacting techniques of mono-types and Provincetown white-line prints, with all of their possibilities for the use of colour. Other early influences were that of "plein air" American Impressionism, as taught by Lois Griffel and other artists at her Cape Cod School of Art; as well as those of Charles Sovek and Charles Movali. She has also found the work of the master, Matisse, and Richard Diebenkorn inspiring. One of  Ms. Cheyrou's major achievements was having, on the first attempt, and with only a few months of experience as an artist, been accepted as a juried member of the Cape Cod Art Association. Another was being among a select group of artists who were invited to exhibit at the Cahoon Museum.
