I have been interested in art since 1992. For many years I worked at building my own style by drawing with pen and ink, and pencil. I spent a lot of time in the local coffee shops working on art, when i realized that i could be doing it for a living. So, in 1999 I expanded my art practice into the streets of St. Augustine Florida, and for three years I worked as a live portrait artist. During that time i sold many prints of my wildlife series and I created custom portraits for many wonderful people that I met.
I was only 17 and I was in direct competition with other more established portrait artists who also did their work on the streets of St. Augustine. It was so much fun to work on all of these drawings while I was there. Unfortunately, in 2001 the proceedings began to remove all of the entertainment on the street in St. Augustine. The artists were faced with a ruling that prevented them from being able to show their work to the public. The Artists of St.George feel it was the money and power behind the shops on the street that made it illegal to be a street artist in St. Augustine.
Since then, I have worked in my studio at home, and I have had my art available online, where I can reach an even wider audience. The main materials and mediums that I like to work with, are color pencil, pastel, graphite and acrylic.
I have developed my own style of working with Prismacolor color pencils.I feel that great art can be created with the simplest tools in the hands of a truly talented artist. This year, in 2009 I discovered the joy of working with Crayola Crayon, and I have been inspired to create a whole series of fine art with this wonderful and well-known medium. My focus is realism and this is a very challenging avenue in art. My drawings take many hours to complete. The average time of completion, is between 40-50 hours of focused drawing.
