L-EWWEL TQARBINA - 90 sena ilu ...

Ricentament ghadu kemm instab ritratt antik li jehodna lura ghall-1919, propju 90 sena ilu.  Dan ir-ritratt juri l-grupp subien li rcievew l-Ewwel Tqarbina nhar it-8 ta' Gunju ta' l-1919, flimkien mal-Kappillan Mons Antonio Vella u Dun Gorg Sapiano.  Interessanti wkoll illi dan ir-ritratt ittiehed propju jum wara l-irvellijiet li sehhew gewwa pajjizna li sa llum baqghu maghrufa bhala dawk tas-Sette Giugno.  Tassew ritratt storiku!

IL-KWADRU TITULARI L-ANTIK

F'gheluq it-375 sena parrocca

Meta Mons. Dusina zar ir-rahal waqt Vista Pastorali fl-1575 sabha minghajr kwadru titulari u ghalhekk ordna huwa stess li titqieghed xbieha tal-qaddis patrun. Ghaldaqstant nistghu nikkonkludu li l-kwadru sar xi ftit zmien wara; certament kien f’postu fl-1600 ghax jissemma f’wahda mill-Visti Pastorali ta’ l-Isqof Gargallo.  Min-naħa l-ohra nafu fic-cert li tpitter minn Filippo Dingli.

Dan il-kwadru (tila kwadra 117cm x 117cm), li llum jinsab imdendel fis-sagristija, fih tliet figuri: Marija Assunta fin-nofs, Sant’ Andrija fuq ix-xellug u San Pawl fuq il-lemin.  Deskrizzjoni perciza tieghu tinsab fir-rapport tal-Vista Pastorali li ghamel l-Isqof Balaguer fl-1636 meta Hal Luqa kienet diga’ saret parrocca.  F’dan id-dokument naqraw li l-kwadru kien mghotti b’bicca drapp sabiex tilqa’ t-trab waqt il-bini tal-knisja l-gdida.

Il-kwadru, kampjun interessanti ta’ arti indigena u popolari, hu ezempju ta’ dik li fit-terminologija artistika tissejjah “Sacra Conversazione” (tahdita qaddisa) – rapprezentazzjoni tal-Vergni Mbierka mdawra b’ghadd ta’ qaddisin fi spazju pittoriku unit, mehdija f’xi sura ta’ djalogu.

Dan il-generu ta’ pittura origina fl-Italja fl-ewwel nofs tas-seklu 15.  L-ewwel ezempju ddatat hu t-Titular ta’ Barbadori mpitter minn Lippo Lippi ghall-ħabta ta’ l-1437 u li llum jinsab fil-Mużew tal-Louvre f’Pariġi.

CLUB HISTORY

The club was started by Fr. Ted Cumbo. As all the locals know him, he was born and lived in Luqa.  Fr. Ted got the idea of starting a club were all the local people that came to Australia in the 50's and that they came from Luqa can meet and stay in touch with what was happening back home.

From the spiritual side Fr Ted and Fr. Andrew Camilleri were able to keep in touch with all the people from Luqa too. So Fr Ted decided to hold a meeting among some Halluqin and put in his proposal to them about the Club.  A small group of people from the village of Luqa got together and started doing meetings at each other's houses.  Fr Ted donated the banner that the club holds dearly.

Suggestions were put forward that now we need money to start up this club. There were things to be bought, so with Jessie Grech as an organiser, she took the job of asking people for donations and organising outings that left some profit.  The generosity of the people from Luqa that live in Melbourne and as far as Sydney came forward and donated there money towards the club.

One particular benefactor was Mrs Dolores Brincat that donated a decent sum of money to go towards ordering the Statue of St. Andrew from Gozo.  Another name that comes to my mind is Mr Joe Camilleri, who was a President of the Club at one stage. He donated hours and hours of his time and money to build the pedestal for the statue. Joe, a local boy, came to Australia with a trade as a carpenter and everyone that has worked with Joe know how fussy he could be when it comes to do something of that nature.

In 1999 the club was registered as an Australian Business Number, known here as an ABN. The Constitution of the Club was drafted and sent to the office of Justice in Melbourne so that the club is now official recognized by the local government of Melbourne.  Since then there were a few Presidents and Committee Members who all worked hard to organize different functions and outings.

The feast of St. Andrew which we hold in July coincides with the feast in Malta and then again we hold a three day festival on the second weekend in November. Starting on Friday we have a mass for all the people who faithfully departed from this world.  On Saturday we hold a dinner dance and an average of 320 people mostly from Luqa get together to continue our heritage in celebrating the feast of our patron Saint.  Then on Sunday there will be a Mass, the procession with the statue outside the church and after, there will be two brass bands playing. The committee organizes a catering stall to raise money to pay for the expenses by selling Hobz biz-zejt, pizza, pastizzi, timpana and of course drinks will be available.

May I take this opportunity to thank those people who have work hard in the past and congratulate the present committee who are doing a wonderful job. Many Thanks goes to Dun Karm Camilleri, parish priest in Luqa and you Neil that gave us the opportunity to be part of your media information.

Viva Sant Andrija and the Halluqin!

Message From Rev. Dun Karm Camilleri to all  luqa emigrants

We are the family of St. Andrew

St Andrew the Apostle is our father in faith. Although scattered in many countries around the earth we, the natives of Hal Luqa, known as Halluqin, are so close together because we profess the same faith in Jesus Christ and the same love for St. Andrew, our Patron Saint. Some do come to celebrate the feast in Luqa every now and then, while others are proud to celebrate the feast of St. Andrew on the 30th November each year in the parishes where they are now settled.

St. Andrew was called by Jesus to follow him and immediately he went to tell his brother Simon Peter that he found the Messiah. Peter followed him and both became protagonists of the gospel. Each one of us is called by Jesus to follow him and to become a witness of the gospel. If we are so generous in our call then we are surely walking in the footsteps of St. Andrew.

Let us keep our faith rooted deep in  our catholic belief.  First of all let us practice fraternal love, and exercise the sentiments of mercy, understanding, patience, humility, forgiveness and kindness in all the environments we live in and work. St. Paul the Apostle, to whom Malta is so much obliged, taught us how to practice these virtues. Incidentally, this year we are celebrating also his 2000 birthday.

May the blessings of the Lord remain always with us and with the help o St. Andrew we continue to live in peace and enjoy all the days of our life. Happy feast to all and the peace of the Risen Lord be always with you.

Viva Sant’ Andrija.

May God bless you all.

L-INCIDENT TAL-ISTATWA TAR-REDENTUR

1978 - 2008

Propju 30 sena ilu, nhar is-16 ta’ Jannar 1978, l-istatwa maestuza tar-Redentur li tinsab fuq il-faccata tal-Knisja Parrokkjali inhakmet minn rih qawwi u kawza ta’ dan, waqghet minn fuq il-pedestall taghha ghal fuq il-bejt ta’ l-istess knisja.  B’xorti tajba hadd ma wegga’ u l-istatwa ma garbitx hafna hsara.  Din l-esperjenza kienet wahda mhux tas-soltu u zgur illi dawk li kienu prezenti f’dan il-mument ser jibqghu jiftakru din il-grajja.

Ix-xoghol ta’ restawr tal-parti li kienet garbet l-akbar hsara kien gie afdat f’idejn l-artist Alfred Camilleri Cauchi, li sa dak iz-zmien kien ghadu ma qabadx sewwa l-linja ta’ statwarju peress li kien jiddekora l-knejjes bi skultura fil-gebla Maltija jew gibs.

Interessanti l-fatt li l-istatwi li nsibu llum, dik li semmejna tar-Redentur kif ukoll tal-Fidi u t-Tama, huma xoghol tal-iskultur maghruf Francesco Saverio Sciortino u kienu saru bejn l-1911 u l-1914.  L-abbozz ta’ l-istatwa tar-Redentur ghadu jezisti sa llum u jinsab fis-sagristija tal-knisja.  Bla dubju ta’ xejn, l-istatwa tar-Redentur tiddomina l-faccata tal-Knisja, thares lil poplu Halluqi kollu.

Wara li sehh dan l-incident, kienet ittiehdet id-decizjoni mill-Kappillan ta’ dak iz-zmien Mons Innocenz Borg biex jergghu jsiru l-istatwi li jirrapprezentaw il-Fidi u Tama. Dawn kienu tnehhew waqt ir-restawr li sar fil-faccata wara l-gwerra u b’xorti tajba kienu ghadhom fuq il-bejt tal-Knisja. Kien sar ukoll xoghol fuq il-pedestall tar-Redentur biex rega’ nghata d-dehra li kellu qabel il-gwerra. Ix-xoghol kien sar mill-Imghallem Halluqi Toninu Galea u l-haddiema tieghu. Fil-bazi tal-pedestall kienu tnaqqxu l-kliem Tu Rex Glorie Christe, xoghol li sar mill-Halluqi Joe Aquilina.

Ghalhekk, permezz ta’ dawn ir-ritratti storici u din l-informazzjoni li qed tidher f’dan is-sit, nistghu ngeddu l-memorja ta’ din il-grajja mhux tas-soltu, u fl-istess hin napprezzaw dejjem aktar dak kollu li hallewlna missirijietna.
