"Without art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable. George Bernard Shaw
For centuries, it has been a well-known fact that physical and mental healing can be achieved through interacting with the arts. A peaceful level of enjoyment and understanding of life can be found through artistic participation. After 9/11, museums and galleries reported record attendance of visitors looking to art as a healing force and sanctuary. Art for Healing believes it is even more important than ever to enjoy and enrich our lives through the arts. Involvement with the arts clears the mind, and heart, brings peace.
Art is healing because being involved in the Arts give us hope, touching something divine within us. Art brings out emotion, uplifting energy that moves one to another level of perception of living to a calm place to escape the harshness of reality. Tapping into pleasant memories, intimate personal experiences and associations in one’s life journey. We analyze with the mind, but Art speaks to the heart and soul. When involved in the arts as a participator or audience, it transmits an ethereal constructive healing energy putting us in touch with one’s soul. Art regenerates a resource for joy and pleasure, which is, absent in so many people in these tense volatile times. Pleasure from involvement with the arts releases endorphins, which promote ecstasy and help build the immune system for better health. Inspiration from seeing a painting, listening to music or attending theatre or dance, a positive energy resonates inside of us that opens the windows of the soul to reach a level of inner peace.
Art for Healing, Inc., NYC 501c(3). We support artists of all ethnic backgrounds that share the healing power of their art to the public. We give free and low cost consultation to artists, on many subjects including marketing, writing an artist statement and portfolio presentation. The Art for Healing gallery is available at no cost to visual and performing artists to use to do a presentation to a client or curator. Our goal is to bring exhibitions, musical, poetic and dramatic performances to hospitals, nursing homes, underprivileged children’s centers, libraries and other institutions that are in need of exposure to the arts and have limited funding.
We are a unique volunteer organization because we bridge the gap between the difficult road of the artist, simultaneously connecting the artist to share their talents with the varied ethnic and economic levels of the community. The Art for Healing organization offers interactive programs, such as art classes, readings, meditation with the use of art techniques, healing with colors, video screenings and community outreach programs for professional artists, as well as for interested people with little or no experience. "Parent and Me" is a special program we are developing encouraging the interaction between a parent and child through the language of creative expression, which also enhances the development of problem-solving skills. Our workshops are designed to inspire creative, self-expression and communication. Working with the hands and ones creative energy, one’s mind grows and a calm and peaceful feeling is reached.

Our Philosophy about the healing power of the arts. "...Obviously it is necessary to have all of one's experiences behind one, but to preserve the freshness of one's instincts." Henri Matisse

"How can Art for Healing NYC help the quality of your life as an artist, art lover or collector, as well as contribute to our community?" is the question to artists and also to art supporters and collectors of art. Our foundation offers artists ideas of how they can advance their careers while sharing their art with our community, which is very important for our future generations. Now I am balancing my love to help fellow artists and art lovers share the healing power of art with our public, and creating art again which has been a great and fulfilling challenge. Art for Healing NYC foundation was established as a sort of protective and nurturing umbrella, to guide and encourage artists’ to create art while performing their role in society as teachers and professional artists. My passion besides creating art is to guide artists to follow their dream in an always difficult climate of making a living through their visual and performing art.
After completing a Masters of Fine Arts at Florida State University, I have since been a professional artist and educator in the art field. Writing poetry is another venue I use to express my ideas and emotions. I feel in poetry one can say so much in so few words.
There are many wonderful Arts organizations we support, so why another one? I founded Art for Healing Foundation after being involved in the challenging art world for many years. Unfortunately, there are not enough galleries or agents to support all of the artists. I empathize with art dealers and art lovers as well as artists, who also have a need for an organization that supports galleries and museums. We expose artists to alternative ways to reach their ultimate potential in their careers, while still showing them how to enjoy life and sharing their talent with all. I feel Art for Healing is unique because we bridge the gap to help visual and performing artists and writers share the healing power of their art with all levels of our community. This missing link, I have know about being a professional artist for many years.
Now, I teach through Art for Healing NYC foundation and guest lecture. I continue after five years to offer marketing consultation to artists and art supporters, and discuss project ideas and venues of how best they can use the therapeutic effect of their artistic talent or contacts with all. I feel it is important to keep a history book of many thank you letters and photographs of activities in our gallery, and at other locations around the world which proves our positive support.
Creating art is not only my profession, but a calling.. It is not important in life to be rich and famous, but to live life to one’s fullest and follow one’s dreams as best one can. This is true success. This is the message in my 30-minute video documentary based in Manhattan, I created titled "A Tiny Voice" with cameraman George Lamboy of Regal Entertainment. It is about a 100-year-old Hungarian artist/photographer who created art until the age of 95. Paula Wright is in many major museums, was associated with famous artists, but was not what we call famous. Through artists and art lovers involvement with Art for Healing NYC org. I hope the message in "A Tiny Voice" about following one’s dreams involved in the arts, regardless if one is rich and famous is realized. Follow your heart and everything else will fall into place. The journey of growing and learning in life is more important than the destiny.
It is important to inspire all human beings to a higher level of perception of life experienced through the arts to all human beings, no matter their race, religion, age, or professional background. There is no right or wrong way to experience art. The important issue is to use the arts as an avenue to take a break from the stressful fast pace life we live. I believe that whatever one’s profession, that exposure to the arts, and to be involved in any of the arts at whatever level, enriches and brings peace and contentment to one’s life.
