Decal Printing
History
Decal printing is believed to have originated in England in the 1830s. The method of printing is to engrave the design on copper. The copper engravings were inked. Then a very thin tissue had to be placed over the engravings which would then be placed onto the dinnerware finally transferring the print.
However, in the early 20th century, the Germans used a colorful tissue-like decals that were put in place on the unglazed dinnerware and later on the item had to be glazed. It was said that the dinnerware in the 1930s and 1940s had used the same technique of decal printing.
