BENNING PHASE
Benning phase is the first out of the three ranger training phases. When recruits enter the Benning phase, they are considered to be within the 4th batallion. Training is conducted at Fort Benning, Georgia. It last 21 days long and is ment to test the physical and mental capabilitys of recruits. The overall goal of the Benning phase is to prove that recruits have the mental and physical capabilities to fufil there tasks in other places, such as missions.
Trainees must complete a rough and intense physical fitness program, designed to enhance trainee's confidence within themselves, and in their instructors. Some tasks include 5 mile timed runs, 3 mile timed run with obstical course, along with pushup and situps galore. You must remember throughout all of the training, sleep and food deprevations brings down trainees and is the hards part to overcome. This phase heavily asses and further enhances military skills, improve physical and mental endurance, increase stamina, and boost soliders confidence. Teaches respect for trainees equipment in battle and other instances.
Benning phases conducted in two smaller phases:
Phase 1: Camp Rodgers
Phase 2: Camp William O. Darby |

MOUNTAIN PHASE
Mountain phase is the 2nd of the three ranger phases. When recruits enter the mountain phase they are considered to be part of the 5th Battalion. Mountain Phase is conducted at Camp Frank D. Merril, in Georgia. PT is still issued to the soldiers, but there is no PT requirement for this Phase. The PT at this point in ranger training is mostly running.
The first three days in the Mountain Phase, Instructers train Soldiers in tying knots, how to tie and 'anchor' for repelling, and also repelling and belaying skills. All this training is for mountain climbing itself. On the forth day in Mountain Phase, soldiers decend via a rapel from a 60 foot wall; where they may or may not be required to carry a rucksack with weight. They also conduct 'buddy climbing', or otherwise known as stretcher repelling. Where soldiers must rapel a stretcher down the 60 foot wall, without having it fall.
Mountain phase, like the benning phase, is divided into two parts as well:
Phase 1: Lower Mountaineering (knots instructions, Rapelling/Belaying skills etc)
Phase 2: Upper Mountaineering (cliff rapelling, Mountain climbing etc) |

FLORIDA PHASE
Florida Phase is the last of the three training Phases. When a soldier enters the Florida Phase, they are considered to be part of the 6th Batallion. In this Phase, training heavily influences conduct. Conduct in the way rangers preform missions, how a ranger can react in a situation. At this point, a ranger has not gotten enough training on Operations and tactics. How to preform a mission, what to and not to do. |
