Most swimmers train for their own personal development, fitness and enjoyment.
All members of Armthorpe Swimming Club are eligiable to compete in the club championships "The Schofields" every november. Their is a novice category for those gaining who are not had much experiance of competivive swimming including those in lessons, and lifesaving. Also there is a under 8 category and age group categories which are "age as 31st of december in the year of competion" upto 15, when swimmers go into the "open" category. The doncaster championships are in october and follow a similar format with categories from "11 years" upto "open".
The club selects teams for galas in The Barnsley Minor League, The Pocklington League and an A&B team for the Local Dinsdale League.
The Barnsley Minors have individual championships in November, and the Dinsdale League have the "John Harriman Championships" in February and March.
Many swimmers also attend "open events" (not to be confused with the age group category, open simply means 'open to all') At these events swimmers tend to meet tougher competion. Also the club does galas 'far-far away' in the past this has included the Scarborough meet.
See News/Events for details of the Jersey Trip or better still ask a club member involved with it.
The disco after the second of the 'Schofield' galas is one of the best attended events. Here those who have gained the most points in their age group in the competition are awarded the trophy/shield/salver. Those who have managed the great achievement of winning all the races in their age group share the "Victor Ludorum". There also awards given to the most improved boy and girl by the chief coach, and the "chief coach’s award" for achievement to one boy and one girl.
As well as this there is the "George Griffiths Award" for outstanding achievement and the new "Alan Brownless Award" for outstanding commitment.
And of course the disco, for all members tends to be quite good as well!
No swimmer is to attend DARTES* without agreement the of the Chief Coach (Kev Frost)
