ASA Rule Changes & Updates

I would like to bring several changes in the ASA rules to everyone's attention.

  • To increase compatibility between ShorthornPlus and Durham Red registries, animals from ¼ blood to 7/8 blood Shorthorn are eligible for registration in the ShorthornPlus herdbook beginning July 1, 2008.
  • To be eligible for ASA-sanctioned shows beginning in the 2009/2010 PACE show season, ShorthornPlus and Durham Red animals that are registered less than ½ Shorthorn blood, must be sired by a half-blood or higher registered Shorthorn bull.
  • Tattoos are limited to eight characters, including the year code if used.
  • All AI sire, donor dams, and cloned animals must have a PHA genetic defect test result (in addition to the already required TH genetic defect test result and DNA genotype) on record with the ASA prior to registering progeny beginning September 1, 2008.
  • ASA members may register their herd prefix (up to four characters). Preference will be given to those who first used the prefix and when applications for registering the prefix were made to the ASA. Herd prefix registration applications can be found on the ASA website or by contacting the ASA office.

If there are any further changes for Shorthorn Plus I will keep you updated, since this is a growing show in Arkansas.
