MUMBAI - The Heart Of India

Mumbai, state capital of Maharashtra and financial capital of India, previously known as Bombay, is a major metropolitan city of India. It is in the form of a long narrow island, almost a peninsula, thrusting south wards into the Arabian Sea. It can be broadly divided into four zones. They are :-

  • South Bombay (Colaba, CST, Fort, Chruchgate, Nariman Point etc.)
  • Central Bombay (Dadar, Bombay Central, Worli etc)
  • The Western suburbs (Bandra, Juhu, Andheri, Borivali etc)
  • The Eastern Suburbs(Kurla, Chembur, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Kanjur Marg, Vikhroli etc.)
  • There is also New Bombay (Vashi, Turbhe, Panvel etc.) across Thane Creek on the mainland.


  • Where is Mumbai

    Mumbai lies in the Western Coast of India. It is a group of seven islands in the Arabian Sea which lies off the Northern Konkan Coast on the west of Maharashtra state in India.

    Culture and Tradition

    Mumbai is having one of the oldest culture and tradition in the World. It is one of the traditionally rich and cultured city. Though it is a Capital of Maharashtra State, people from other states also come to Mumbai in search of jobs. People from different cultures and traditions live together as if having one culture. Majority is of Maharashtrians and Gujarathis.

    Climate

    Mumbai experiences essentially three seasons: Summer (March-May), Monsoon (June-mid September) and Winter (October-February). April-June is peak summer time, and temperatures reach near 95 F/32 C, although it can go much higher. Rainfall averages 100 in/250 cm during monsoon. Temperatures sometimes drop as low as 45 F/8 C in January. Winter is normally pleasant.



    Public Transport

    Mumbai has one of the most efficient and reliable public transport network. One can travel by Autorickshaws / Taxis from the nearest Railway Stations to their desired place. For longer distance, one can use either the BEST Bus Network or the Mumbai Local trains.



    Mumbai Suburban Railway System


    Mumbai is having a good network of Suburban Railway Transport. There are three types of Railway networks. They are :-

    • Central Railway Network

    • Trains running from Kalyan, Thane, Ghatkopar, Kulra, Dadar (Central) to C.S.T.

    • Harbour Railway Network

    • Trains running from Panvel, Chembur, Vashi, New Bombay, Kurla to C.S.T., Bandra, Andheri

    • Western Railway Network

    • Trains running from Virar, Borivali, Andheri, Bandra, Dadar, Mumbai Central to Churchgate
