Ladies,
Welcome back after the Summer break – although I don’t know about you but it seems a long time ago now! The last Area meeting on 2nd July (postponed from the week before because of flooding!) seems even further ago. I’ll briefly mention some the things I’ve survived, thrived and celebrated but there are separate reports for many of these events because there’s too much to condense into the odd sentence!
Surviving….
Sadly I have to start my report this time with news of two people who have not survived: Past National President Joan Craven (an Honorary Life Member of NALC) and closer to home a retired Circler but active Honorary June Rowling from Mirfield Ladies Circle who had Breast Cancer died in July leaving a husband and two children. Those at the October Area Meeting will have observed a Minute’s Silence for them and for all those suffering, particularly from Breast Cancer, to whom that meeting was dedicated.
Well, I’ve survived my first Ladies Circle International Conference in Tallinn, my first Charter Lunch speech at Sitlington (or “Gin List Ton” as I renamed them!) and my first National Councillor’s weekend which included a Councillors Dinner, Council Meeting & Presidential Ball at the end of September.
I’ve also survived my first Area Delegates meeting as Area Chair and would like to thank the 20 Circlers who attended from 7 Circlers for their lively debate and contributions to the Items for Discussion and I understand Batley who thought they were coming for an Area Meeting enjoyed themselves anyway!
I survived my Radio debut on BBC Radio Leeds – Shourjo’s Evening show “a Dinner Party without the food” which is basically chat between the records for 2 hours. I was able to plug
Not sure I’ll survive when Helena Housley finds out that I lost the Non-Sporting Trophy for her &
Thriving……….
In terms of thriving it’s been great to get out and about including inducting a new member at Huddersfield Pendragon – so welcome to Kate Leadbetter and I hope she thrives in Circle! Perhaps the “Physical Spiritualist Medium” I met that night with them will know!!!
Another thriving evening was the Chair & Vice Night at my house back in July. It was lovely to see so many of you and to see you all mixing together so that hopefully it will make things easier for you in meeting your fellow Chairs and Vices at events etc I’ve done a separate report because there was so much to report on you, you eclectic bunch!
Celebrating…….
As I mentioned, I celebrated Sitlington’s 32nd Charter with them in an excellent lunch on 13th October. I celebrated with Tracey Wilkinson in Tallin at the end of a fantastic year for her where she represented us so well and put Area 3 on the map. I celebrated with National President Michelle at her fantastic Presidential Ball and I celebrated with Jane Jowett from Halifax Ladies Circle who won the Laura Crane Ball Raffle (2 free tickets and VIP reception with Catherine Tate). Thank you so much to everyone who bought a ticket and helped raise £140 for The Laura Crane Trust.
I also celebrated with the winners of the Non Sporting and Golf Trophies – read on later in 3 Cheers to find out who! Hopefully by the time you read this I will also have celebrated Baildon Ladies Circle from Area 23 at their Charter Dinner.
As well as all that I’ve managed to fit in 3 Conference Leeds 2008 meetings, 2 Décor sub committee meetings and 1 band viewing night and various nights out with Halifax Ladies Circle including a Guinea Pig meal, a Pamper Night, a Pampered Chef Night at my house, a Pimms Night, 1 business meeting as well as the Halifax Round Table family camping weekend, stewarding a musical concert at a special school in Halifax and a Macmillan Coffee Afternoon and Bucket shake at Tescos.
And just to top it off personally I’ve climbed
That’s up to you! I really want to make the most of my year and visit you all so please invite me – otherwise I’ll see you at the Laura Crane Ball with Catherine Tate on 10th November, the Friendship Night 22nd November, and the Curry for Toilets Night 30th November or out training for the 3 Peaks Fundraiser which will be on Saturday 5th April 2008.
It’s left to wish you a Happy Halloween and I hope you Survive, Thrive and Celebrate as much as you can over the coming few months and see you after Christmas!!!
Yours in Friendship
Claire Cunnington
