Arbroath United v. Rossie Priory at Lochlands on Sat. 23rd August.

United lost Alan Pedgrift in the fifth over when he was dismissed by Craig Robertson.   The foundation of the innings was set by Neil Burnett and Mark Edwards (35) as they had a partnership of 111 for the second wicket before Edwards was bowled by Jamon Cherry in the 34th over.   Kevin Robb joined Burnett (100, 10 fours, 1 six) and a further 44 was added before Burnett having completed his century was bowled by Lauder.  The introduction of Derek McAlpine into the attack saw the dismissal of Robb (23) and in the following over Chris Shepherd was trapped lbw by Lauder (2 for 45).   There then followed a partnership of 76 between Jack Plomer (unbeaten 39) and Kevin Stott (41, 3 fours 2 sixes) which was ended in the final over by McAlpine (3 for 32) trapping Stott lbw and he also had Euan Small caught as United closed on 257 for 7.   In reply Rossie Priory never came to terms with the United attack, only McAlpine and Cherry reached double figures as they were dismissed in the 21st over for 43.   The wickets were shared with Small taking 4 for 12, Plomer 2 for 10, Jamie Bowick and Stuart Gibson both claiming one.   United winning by 214 runs in a fixture sponsored by Gordon Stewart and friends.

Arbroath United v. Strathmore at Lochlands on Sat. 16th August.

United, lost Kevin Robb in the second over, stumped by Michael Gourlay from the bowling of Fraser Coutson.   Mark Edwards was joined by Gavin Sinclair and they took the total to 59 in the 11th over when the latter was caught by Gary Hewitsdon from the bowling of  Liam Sweeney.    A further 33 was added before Sweeney (2 for 29) struck again dismissing Jack Plomer.   Edwards (62, 7 fours) completed his half century and with Chris Shepherd (25) they reached 149 in the 36th over when Edwards was dismissed by Drew Orr.  Shepherd was dismissed in his following over and only Kevin Stott of the later batsmen reached double figures as United were dismissed in the 45th over for 185 with Orr taking 5 wickets for 30 and Graham Hewitson 2 for 24.   When Strathmore batted  Jamie Bowick and Euan Small quickly put them on the back foot as only 19 runs came from the opening ten overs with Small bowling Andy Cooper.   Gary Hewitson and Matthew Simpson reached 43 in the 17th over when the former became the first of two victims for Sean Christie (2 for 27).     Gourlay (20) was bowled by Small (3 for 17) with the total on 72 and the bowler quickly followed up with the wicket of Douglas Sayers.   Simpson (54) was finally sixth out in the 43rd over when he was stumped by Shepherd from the bowling of Kevin Stott.   Strathmore closed on 127 for 6 as United won by 58 runs.  The match was sponsored by Sean Scriminger and friends.

Arbroath United v. Forthill. at Forthill on Sat. 2nd August.

Forthill elected to bat and the professional Warren Hayward was quickly into his stride as they reached 47 in the 11th over before Jamie Bowick bowled John Findlay. Four overs later Tony Weed was trapped lbw by Stewart Gibson, however Hayward was joined by Denis Petrie (42, 4 fours) and they scored quickly taking the total to 159 in the 34th over when Petrie was caught by Ross McLean from Chris Plomer’s bowling.   Euan Small (2 for 60) claimed the wickets of Graham McLelland and Gavin Martin but Hayward remained unbeaten on 115 (11 fours) as Forthill closed on 234 for 5.   In reply United lost early wickets and with John Brown taking three, United were 34 for 4 in the 14th over.   Chris Plomer (27, 4 fours) and Jack Plomer added 29 before they fell in quick succession to Petrie (2 for 23).   Bowick and Chris Shepherd (34) shared a 50 run partnership but the introduction of Hayward (2 for 10) quickly brought their dismissals and with Brown (4 for 23) returning to have Gibson caught by Gordon Walker United were all out for 126 in the 35th over, losing by 108 runs.

Arbroath United v. Dundee High School FP’s. at Lochlands on Sat. 26th July.

DHS electing to bat reached 27 in the 11th over before Chris Shepherd combined with Jamie Bowick to dismiss both Adam Chad and Dileep Rudraswamy.   Shepherd then took a third catch this time from Chris Plomer’s bowling to dismiss Dougie Kyles, however there then followed a partnership of 62 between Kenny Kyles (35) and Jamie Landwehr (27) before Sean Christie trapped Kyles lbw.  Kevin Stott had Les Milne caught by Ross McLean, while Christie (2 for 28) took a return catch to dismiss Landwehr to leave DHS on 96 for 6 in the 30th over.   Dinesh Bailwal (30) and Paul Scott took the total to 142 in the 38th over when the latter was bowled by Neil Burnett.   A late flurry of wickets saw Bowick (4 for 17) claim a further two wickets and with Qadees Ahmed run out in the final over DHS were dismissed for 182.   In reply United lost both openers in the first seven overs having reached 22.   Matthew Gove (19) and Gavin Sinclair added 30 before Gove was bowled by Chad however they then slumped to 76 for 8 with Bailwal taking 3 for 32.   Stewart Gibson remained unbeaten on 22 as United were dismissed in the 34th over for 110 with Landwehr taking 2 for 4, United losing by 72 runs.   This Strathmore & Perthshire premier division fixture was sponsored by Derek McNulty.

Arbroath United v. Mannofield at Lochlands on Sat. 5th July.

Euan Small had Cross caught by Kevin Robb in the fourth over with the total on 6.  Shaun Coetzer (37, 6 fours) and Shay took the total to 42 before Stewart Gibson had Shay caught by Kevin Robb and the next ball had the professional Carl Fraunstein caught by Ben McGill.   Gibson and McGill combined again to dismiss Mark Assiter at 62 and five runs later McGill bowled Coetzer.   Gibson (5 for 24) finished with five wickets from his overs allocation as Mannofield reached 86 for 9 in the 33rd over.   West (12) and Clubb (14) then added 30 for the final wicket before Clubb was run out in the 42nd over by Gavin Sinclair, Mannofield being dismissed for 116.    In reply United were in early difficulties against the bowling of Graham Clubb and Fraunstein losing four wickets in reaching 18 in the 11th over.   Matthew Gove (25) and Chris Plomer (12) took the total to 49 in the 17th over when Clubb (4 for 21) claimed a fourth wicket bowling Plomer.   Gove was bowled by Assiter with the total on 61, and while United put several promising partnerships together Assiter (4 for 13) claimed a further three wickets to leave United on 103 for 9.    United just missed out when Chris Shepherd was caught by Cross from the bowling of Coetzer with the total on 108, losing by 8 runs.   The fixture was sponsored by Gordon Strachan.

Arbroath United v. Meigle at Lochlands on Sat. 26th April.

United lost an early wicket when Ross McLean was caught by Laing from the bowling of Leese in the fourth over.  There followed a partnership of 64 between Mark Edwards and Ewan Rosie (24) which was ended in the 17th over when the latter was bowled by Dennis Christie.   Wickets then fell at regular intervals before a partnership of 35 between Edwards and Neil Burnett took United to 141 for 6 in the 32nd over when Burnett was caught by Craig Knox from the bowling of Bill Scott.   Edwards (81, 5 fours) was ninth out in the 43rd over, becoming the third victim for Christie (3 for 37), United closing on 189 for 9.   When Meigle batted Laing (22, 4 fours) and Bill Scott laid the foundation with a partnership of 59 which ended in the 14th over when Laing was caught by Simon Pedgrift from the bowling of Sean  Christie.   Scott (unbeaten 73, 8 fours) was joined by Knox (73, 6 fours, 1 six) and they had a partnership of 104 before the latter was caught by Ewan Rosie from McLean’s bowling.  Morrison was bowled by Euan Small in the following over but this proved to be United’s last success as Meigle won by 7 wickets with 8 overs remaining.
