Biography

Anthony Dean Rapp

Born on October 26^th, 1971 in Joilet, Illinois to Douglas and Mary Rapp. He was preceded by a brother (Adam) and sister (Anne). Aspiring to be an actor from a very young age, Rapp got his first ‘break’ at age 10, landing the lead role in Broadway’s production of The Little Prince. The production was however, cancelled before it even got off of the ground. However, having gotten his name out into the world, he got a role in The King and I. His first film appearance came in 1987, in Adventures in Babysitting.

After Adventures in Babysitting, Rapp disappeared from the screen and stage for a bit, finished high school and went on to NYU, which he left shortly after to more fully pursue his career. He has appeared in films such as Dazed and Confused, A Beautiful Mind and Twister.

After his film appearances, Rapp went in search for a way to not only act, but sing as well. His search brought him to the New York Theatre Workshop, and to a workshop for a play called RENT. From there on, RENT went into production and Rapp was cast as Mark Cohen, a struggling film-maker. Rapp stayed with RENT until the musical ended in London.

More recently in 2000, Rapp released his first CD titled, “Look Around”.

Then, after years of gossip and failed attempts, RENT was made in a motion picture. Rapp, along with five others from the original cast resumed their roles and on November 23^rd, 2005 RENT was released to the public.

A year after RENT’s release, Rapp’s book Without You hit the shelves.

Rapp currently lives in New York City with his partner Rodney To and their three cats Emma, Sebastian and Spike.
