If you have Windows NT (4.0/2000/XP/2003/Vista) You may want to use the OS/2|Posix Subsystem Remover to free up some memory.
Contrary to the name, this product, in essence, does not actually remove the subsystems, as much as just not load them. When Windows NT starts, a program, called 'WinLogon' starts a set of applications that provide functionality to load certain applications, such as Windows legacy, OS/2 (an operating system started by Microsoft and IBM, then shifted to IBM only and discontinued in 2001), and POSIX (a set of standards for UNIX-based Operating Systems, which Windows is not) applications. Which of these are loaded are decided by a registry key that allows you to, although Windows legacy is required, stop loading support for OS/2 and Posix applications.
