Goddard, Pliny Earle. (1919). Myths and tales from the White Mountain Apache. Anthropological Papers of The American Museum of Natural History, (Vol. 24, Pt. 2). New York: The American Museum of Natural History.

Editor's notes:

I am reproducing this book exactly as written with the following modifications:
  • Footnotes are now endnotes at the bottom of the webpage and are numbered consecutively throughout the webpage.
  • Words & names written in Western Apache are changed to the now current orthography. But I have included the original transliteration at first mention of the Western Apache word, in which case the original transliteration immediately follows the Western Apache word and is enclosed in brackets & in a slightly smaller font size. I will make a list of words in the original transliteration matched up with the equivalent in the current orthography at a later time. Note that Goddard does not include any information about tone in his transcriptions, which is unfortunate. Furthermore, Goddard may be wrong (just a note for people looking for language info).
  • Western Apache words mentioned are in italics (excluding names of characters).
  • Page numbers are not indicated except at the beginning and end of sections.
  • Other minor things that I hope may ease accessibility and readability.
